The Lexington Herald-Leader, one of Kentucky's largest newspapers, has endorsed Sen. Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) Democratic challenger, Amy McGrath, for the state's senate seat.
The newspaper wrote in its endorsement that many people feel Kentucky's senate race is "the most important contest in the country" next to the presidential election, "with the future of our democracy riding on the right choice."
"During his 36 years in office, McConnell has made it perfectly clear that his only passion is the pursuit of power, his own and that of the Republican Party," the paper said. "For that reason alone, we would endorse his opponent."
"Luckily for voters, McGrath, a former fighter pilot and public servant, would make an excellent senator who would actually put the needs and interests of Kentuckians above her own," it continued.

The paper then blasted McConnell for pushing through the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court instead of working to provide coronavirus relief.
**The endorsement states:
"McGrath understands that people are suffering from McConnell's failure to address issues that have worsened during the coronavirus pandemic, such as the economy and health care.
McGrath also wants to make sure a case like the Louisville police killing of Breonna Taylor "never happens again"

And local news casts report it too.

The eyes of America are on Kentuckys race for the U.S. Senate because many rightly feel that next to the presidential election, its the most important contest in the country, with the future health of our democracy riding on the right choice.
That choice is Amy McGrath, a Democrat challenging longtime incumbent and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. During his 36 years in office, McConnell has made it perfectly clear that his only passion is the pursuit of power, his own and that of the Republican Party. For that reason alone, we would endorse his opponent. Luckily for voters, McGrath, a former fighter pilot and public servant, would make an excellent senator who would actually put the needs and interests of Kentuckians above her own.

(4,125 posts)Had it said state senate seat it would have been incorrect.
Had it said one of the states two senate seats it would have been more clear.

(94,683 posts)Look, let's be honest. AZ, CO, NC and ME are almost certainly wins. GA, GA-S, SC, MT, IA, KS and even AK have shown movement towards the Democratic candidate.
KY has not moved. It started out LIKELY-R; it's still LIKELY-R. MCGrath has all the money she could want to spend; it hasn't moved the needle. Whatever Kentucky voters think about McConnell, they're still largely willing to vote for him.

(10,274 posts)unfair those meanie democrats in the MAJORITY are being to all us poor, powerless republicans and what a travesty it is that the 'norm' of the filibuster no longer exists.
I dont think hes going to lose his seat. He likley will lose his majority leadership.
Our majority response to this should be as follows:
Well, what do want us to consider that would be actually USEFUL to Americas 'average' citizen? Oh, so nothing? Ok then kindly guck right off.'
We need to be done fucking around with his ass. He needs his attempt at a minority-rule coup so utterly stomped into the earth that it will not be attempted by anyone for another century.

(8,059 posts)If there is a God, the republicans will just not show up. They'll figure everyone else is voting, and they don't have to, or there will be really bad weather, and they won't want to get out in it with COVID and all, too.
I just hope we end up taking all the races. ALL. THE. RACES.

(15,325 posts)It's gotta be power.
But it's not power for the people he supposedly represents in Kentucky, and it's definitely not power for the regular people of the US.
It used to be that KY politicians represented at least agriculture and tobacco.
Is he representing plutocrats and oligarchs from the US, or those in Russia or in China (Chao's home)?
Or is he fearful of finding out that all of his two-timing the US may be exposed?

(38 posts)Even if she doesnt pull this off, her state, her fame, and her wholesomeness are major powers nationally.
Regardless of the turn of KY election, McGrath did some serious damage to Mitch McConnell's con.
She opened some eyes & has plenty of cash to change the perception of McConnell & opened the eyes of those who always thought they had to settle for Mitch.
