Sturgis (500,000 biker rally) was a superspreader throughout the midwest

Last edited Sun Oct 18, 2020, 10:48 AM - Edit history (1)

...500,000-person gathering played a role in the outbreak now consuming the Upper Midwest.

More than 330 coronavirus cases and one death were directly linked to the rally as of mid-September, according to a Washington Post survey of health departments in 23 states that provided information. But experts say that tally represents just the tip of the iceberg, since contact tracing often doesn’t capture the source of an infection, and asymptomatic spread goes unnoticed.

In many ways, Sturgis is an object lesson in the patchwork U.S. response to a virus that has proved remarkably adept at exploiting such gaps to become resurgent. While some states and localities banned even relatively small groups of people, others, like South Dakota, imposed no restrictions — in this case allowing the largest gathering of people in the United States and perhaps anywhere in the world amid the pandemic and creating huge vulnerabilities as tens of thousands of attendees traveled back home to every state in the nation.

So, South Dakota with it's 'we don't have to follow any rules' governor, has inflamed the US pandemic.
When some think of only themselves having a good time, the rest are victims to it.

the source of CV infections...two big events across the Country...I hope that these idiots located in both locations made their 30 pieces of silver, while getting the rest of the Country sick. Lots and lots of places throughout this Country canceled yearly events despite heartbreak for many, graduations, weddings, you name it, but these idiots, NOoooo...

This article infuriates me for many reasons but the quote above about contact tracing is part of it and the health experts saying it's impossible to tell where the cases came from

In this country we forward trace contact spread when we should be backward tracing

Why because 80% of the cases are caused by 20 % of the spreaders

Backward tracing is how other countries mitigate the virus

I would go to demo ride all the neat bikes but they aren't there this year so neither am I..
It's so nice that all these bikers dress up in outlaw biker gear for Halloween
Too bad they forget to take off the costume after Halloween..
