WaPo - Troy Aikman, Joe Buck question value of military flyovers in comments caught on hot mic

The so called conservative media is spinning this as Troy Aikman and Joe Buck are making fun of the military, but it seems like they are just questioning the use of the military as a taxpayer financed political prop.

Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, the No. 1 team on Fox’s NFL broadcasts, were caught in a hot-mic moment as four jets soared over Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium, which was mostly empty because of crowd restrictions put in place because of the coronavirus pandemic, before the Buccaneers’ game against the Green Bay Packers in Tampa.

“That’s a lot of jet fuel just to do a little flyover,” Aikman, the Hall of Fame quarterback, mused.

Buck replied, “That’s your hard-earned money and your tax dollars at work.”

“That stuff ain’t happenin’ with a Kamala-Biden ticket,” Aikman responded, “I’ll tell you that right now, partner.”

But I think Aikman is incorrect. There were flyovers at sports events under Obama/Biden all the time. Don't see it changing.

Though it definitely should, I doubt it will.

We'd need, say ... a GORE presidency for stupid shit like these flyovers to stop.

Flyover the Super Bowl if it's outdoors? Okay. A regular season game? With a virus-limited stadium attendance? Gimme a damn break.

If sporting organizations want flyovers, they should hire them. They could hire the Commemorative Air Force or a similar organization.

When we still went to baseball games, they had the crowd standing up and gesticulating more than Irish Catholics at a midnight mass. It was a parody of itself. Every half inning they trot out somebody else that you have to get up and applaud. If you take a sip of your beer during the anthem some frothing bozo goes ballistic two rows back. It's fucking crazy town. I took a Brit friend to a Cubs game and he couldn't believe the patriotic mumbo jumbo; he was literally laughing the third time they called out some soldier on to the field mid-inning to get a round of applause, and the Cubs don't even do God Bless America during the stretch (thank God for small mercies). Players wearing desert camo in some of these games like it's not a complete clown show.

Never mind football, where the whole thing is amped up 1000X. Flyovers, etc. If baseball has us at a Catholic mass for the military, in football it's like a pentecostal cult. Gesticulating and going absolutely balloo. I think it's the real reason people got so angry at Kaepernick. He not only refused to play along to the nonsense, but he showed people how foolish they looked. That's why he can't be forgiven.

about air shows. They're expensive and environmentally hurtful and unnecessary (IMO), not to mention how often the shows *feature* loss of life from flying these dangerous stunts, often in antique planes. I'll pass.

They cite as proof the fact that he married a single mother, therefore the daughters he talks about were fathered by someone else. They also say it’s revealing that he put Kamala at the head of the ticket.
