Ohioans have cast more than 1.1 million ballots with two weeks to go until the presidential election

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- More than 1.1 millions Ohioans have voted early, with still two weeks to spare until the Nov. 3 presidential election, according to Secretary of State Frank LaRose.

Of the early votes, 675,231 were absentee ballots, either mailed in or dropped off at county boards of election, while another 440,480 ballots were cast in-person. The numbers are as of Friday. More than 2.7 million Ohioans have requested absentee ballots.

Early voting numbers already are beginning to approach 2016 totals. That year, 1.8 million people voted early, about one in three of the 5.8 million ballots cast overall. Officials have predicted early votes this year could represent one out of every two ballots cast.

And, the early numbers in early voting are despite thousands of ballots in 16 counties, including Cuyahoga, Clinton, Lorain, Mahoning, Stark, Summit and Trumbull counties, being delayed for more than two weeks after a vendor, a Cleveland-based printing company, failed to meet its deadlines. Officials say the problem has been resolved, although nine counties decided to print the ballots in-house instead.
