That wasn't his first wife though. It's just that he is such a larger-than-life guy who has been so active, whether on-screen and/or behind the scenes writing and directing, that he was usually the focus.

The film was total condemnation of racism and corruption, albeit in a satirical manner, and we all know how right wingers are challenged, to put it mildly, with understanding satire.

History of the World Part I is also quite political. He just uses humor. A bit like Kubrick does in Dr. Strangelove.

I've never seen The Producers but given the subject matter that had to be political.

by not only pointing out society's flaws, but pointing out how wrong they are by making us laugh really hard at them. Blazing Saddles is one of my favorite movies of all time. It has aged, as we all have, but the humor and the point are still as sharp today as then. I got a boxed set of Mel's movies last Christmas, and I was just looking through them last night to pick a "cheer me up, laugh me down" movie. It's sometimes easy to forget how many well known, hilarious movies Mel Brooks has given us until you're holding a fistful all at once. What an amazing man!

This is a great ad. It was timely and generous of Mel to make it.
