There's still no stimulus deal. What does that mean for you?

Another stimulus package remains on hold until after the presidential election, threatening to delay urgently needed unemployment aid and a second round of $1,200 direct payments by at least two weeks.

That would affect millions of out-of-work Americans who are struggling financially following a wave of job losses in the coronavirus recession, especially those in hard-hit industries like travel and hospitality who are relying on another stimulus check to make ends meet, experts say.

With less than two weeks until the election, 1 in 5 Americans could be out of money by Election Day, data from consumer finance company Credit Karma shows.

“People are going to be forced to make tough choices,” says Colleen McCreary, chief people officer at Credit Karma. “There are a lot of Americans who either haven’t been in this situation in a long time or have never had to face this reality. Many will have to sacrifice and prepare because it could get worse before it gets better.”

my DH fixes hospital machinery, so he's been working pretty much through this whole thing.

I do know others, however, who are having a lot of trouble and will likely have to choose between a roof over their heads and, well, everything else they spend money on.

Both myself and my husband are out of work. We've got two kids in virtual school. We both have underlying health conditions (heart disease for me, high blood pressure and possible Neuro issues for him). For us, employment is needed badly. At the same time, it could be a death sentence. How do you work through that?

I havent received any unemployment yet. I did not qualify for regular unemployment because I didn't make enough in the previous year/two years. I did qualify for the pandemic unemployment, but have received $0.00. It's impossible to reach them for help. I finally reached out to my local representative and she is fowarding my info to a different office. She says it can take 4 to 6 weeks to hear back.

We've struggled financially for years. My marriage is also not safe, which is another wrinkle. In 2015, after years of poverty, we finally got off of food stamps and Medicaid, though the kids were put on CHIP. I swore that we would *NEVER* ever rely on government aid ever again. Well, in April I couldn't hang on anymore and applied for SNAP. We were approved. I am grateful for it, yet heartbroken. We also required a grant for last month's rent, which puts us in the crosshairs of my landlord (apartment is owned by a multi billion dollar national company who gives zero fucks about people). I have no clue what we'll do in December.

So, these piece of shit politicians can go straight the fuck to hell and burn for all eternity. They are prolonging this virus, making it harder for higher risk people like me to get back to work safely. They are prolonging it and making it unsafe for our kids to go back to school, which also effects employment for people. They are playing games with people's money and their lives. I hope they all lose all of their money and have to live like me. This country can afford to take care of it's citizens and it has the resources to hurt this virus, but Trump, McConnell and their buddies fiddle while we burn.

No dog in the hunt, personally.
We're high income retirees so the deal doesn't affect us.
But, the lack of progress is really annoying
A big move is needed, and McConnell is playing with people's lives.
Angering!

I’ve been out of work since March. I went on CA unemployment as an independent contractor under PUA. Because I had a W2-based claim from 2018 that ended in Jan 2019, my weekly CA benefit was set at $450. With the added Fed $600 my weekly pretax benefit was $1050.

That $450 per week benefit was exhausted at the end of May, so my rate was recalculated at that time to be $214 a week based on my indy contractor income. I continued to receive the $600 in Fed$ til the end of July. I then qualified for 6 weeks worth of tRump’s $300 a week Fed $ - that has now been exhausted.

And so, I am now receiving $214 a week in total unemployment benefits compared to the $1050 I was receiving between March-June.

So, yeah. I definitely feel an impact.

BTW - I am 66, and am drawing $1390 a month in SS benefits (the $1390 is what’s left after my monthly Medicare premium is deducted). That means I’m better off than others. Still...

We have tried to help as much as we can, but we are not going to be able to do it forever. The stimulus money would pay their mortgage for 3 months. It might hold them over until Bob can find something and get back to work. He was laid off from a job that won't be coming back because the company went out of business. He is 58 years old, I worry that nobody will hire him.

Republicans are heathens.
