Mealy Mouthed Mitch McConnell savages Trump - minutes after voting to acquit

Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell said on Saturday that Donald Trump was “practically and morally responsible” for the insurrection at the US Capitol on 6 Jan – minutes after voting to acquit the former president in his impeachment trial for that very same act.

McConnell, like the Senators who voted in favor of impeachment, was deeply critical of Trump’s conduct leading up to the attack. “They [the mob] did this because they’d been fed wild falsehoods by the most powerful man on Earth because he was angry he lost an election,” McConnell said.

But McConnell argued the Senate could not convict Trump because he had left office before the Senate trial began – a timeline McConnell orchestrated as Senate majority leader after refusing Democrats’ requests to call the Senate into an emergency session in January.

The House impeached Trump for a second time in his final days in office, but McConnell delayed starting the Senate trial until after Joe Biden was sworn in.

to the Senate while Mitch still had control. She knew he would squash it and there would be no trial.

So Mitch is maliciously acknowledging that Trump was guilty as hell and oh, if only the Democrats had brought the impeachment article over sooner, but nothing he could do now but vote to acquit.

Donald Trump was impeached by the House. That means a trial. Who is supposed to try impeachments? Is there any weaseling away from that duty? Let's take a quick look at that quaint old document you swore to preserve, protect and defend. It's in Article I, section 2, right near the beginning: "the Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments." By "sole Power," the Senate is the one and only body that can try an official who has been impeached by the House. Are you saying that this is a discretionary duty of the Senate, or that some other body can try impeachments? Because the Constitution quite plainly disagrees with you.

You should resign since you can't do your constitutional duty.
