I'm over on the west slope. It is currently above 70 with rain in an hour and snow by midnight. Typical end of Autumn and start of winter. Just harvested last of tomatoes. We had our share of fire, mostly smoky this terrible year. Now if northern Cali could get some rain we could relax

(104 posts)What a horrible fire season it's been. I'm hoping this weather change gives the firefighters some help in getting the fires under control.

(4,079 posts)In the foothills southeast of the Troublesome fire, way south of the Cameron fire, and only about ten miles south of the (relatively) small fire near Ward that they got under control pretty fast.
We've got almost six inches of snow and it's -1 degree Fahrenheit. The news from the fires is that the snow has at least "hit a pause" on any growth. Hopefully it will do more than that by tonight.
On edit: THANK YOU to all of the firefighters! You are heroes! Rock-stars one and all!

(32,777 posts)I have the football game on - Denver vs Kansas City. It's been snowing for about an hour I think. They have snow accumulating on the field at Mile High Stadium.
(Denver is losing, but that's another story.)

(11,498 posts)My husband lost his pot place Talent Health Club, of course our area has plenty more.
Its a long road ahead to clean up and rebuild.
We are going down to Cali in a few weeks, I haven't seen my 92 yr old mom in Napa in almost a year as I don't drive over pass in winter.

Sure hope they get the foot or so of snow. She says she can see the ash falling out of the sky, and the fire is about 50-60 miles west of her.

(5,075 posts)Oregon, Washington, etc. are experiencing the devastation. I am heart-sore knowing so many more people are experiencing the consequences of these fires. We have been very lucky, but so many of our neighbors, both near and far, have not. All I can do is donate to organization who have been helping those affected. But I can say that I am thankful for the comfort and camaraderie to be found here at DU.
Stay safe out there!

(11,498 posts)I love the weather there and how close to ocean but I also love the mountains and wanted to live in a smaller city. Its also cheaper to buy a house here.

(7,263 posts)The goddess was smiling on him though, from what he could see from a neighbor's outside camera's and the fire maps the blaze burned all around his land and cabin, came within 75 yards.
This is great news. Can't wait to talk to him tomorrow.
