Immigrants who came here from countries under autocratic rule. fleeing inhumane and vicious leaders, looking for freedom from corruption and fascism, professing strong beliefs is family values and Christian ideals, and looking for economic opportunity, once getting here seem to favor leaders they are fleeing. There is no way I could vote for a man like Trump who oversaw pulling babies from their parents, placing them in cages in horrible conditions and not caring if they ever found their parents again. Voting for Trump just because your 401K us doubt well or because you were lucky enough to get a good job ...all of which could disappear overnight...just seems so obscene and hypocritical. It's sickening.

(3,635 posts)will benefit Dems is a fallacy as alot of those folks are from very conservative countries and upbringings, and tend to admire strongmen types such as Trump.
As a man of color who is familiar with some of these communities, it is no surprise to me that he has some level of support with such communities.

(41,170 posts)people from Latin America and Asia. Many don't have the chance to study and learn about democracy and governance which is no fault of theirs.
For many new immigrants the main focus is economic security and maintaining familiy and relious observance. Our system of paying taxes and the political structure aren't understood much at all and I tire of hearing complaints and trying to inform people.
Attitudes toward women in subservient roles, unfamiliarity with independent working women can be hard to take.

They are just trying to create their privileged life, under a dictatorship, here in the USA.

(5,943 posts)One was born in a refugee camp, where her family was given shelter after fleeing the postwar Communist advance in Eastern Europe.
Now she cheers and applauds the policy of caging the children of her fellow refugees, and is blind to the irony.

(509 posts)And they see Trump as a 'strongman'. It's this weird toxic masculinity. The irony is Trump is nothing but a coward.
