Not counting George Washington of course. Clinton, W Bush, and Obama only had two Justices confirmed in two terms. The last to have successfully put on three was Reagan, in two terms.

(5,943 posts)Gorsuch was appointed to a seat left open for the better part of a year through Mitch McConnell's malfeasance.
Kavanaugh, I suspect, stepped into a vacancy created by blackmailing Justice Kennedy into resigning.
The poorly-qualified Barrett has been rushed through while an election was in progress.

(23,926 posts)she is a religious bigot, and a member of a fringe cult which would deny basic rights and dignity to millions of Americans. As such, she is most definitely unsuited to sit on the highest court in the land.

(5,943 posts)That's a very subjective term, without a legal meaning, that I deliberately chose in order to express a personal opinion.
That personal opinion is based on the fact that she's never yet judged a case.

(37,161 posts)...the election was stolen, and it should have been Hillary Clinton picking the latter two seats, with Merrick Garland finally being seated in between the election and the inauguration.

(12,423 posts)so, they only alternative is for President Biden to appoint at least 4 more Justices to match the number of Circuit Courts in the country, and that would give us a 7-6 majority, and, if we're lucky, Thomas will either get sick and resign, or he dies and Pres. Biden gets to name a new SCJ, making it 8-5.
That would be my plan.

(19,264 posts)Some Presidents since then have appointed three or four but over two terms.
Biden if he serves only one term could be the first President since Carter to have zero Supreme Court appointments unless we expand the court.

(31,261 posts)I remember the brutal 6-3 conservative rulings of the late 70s and early 80s.
The most interesting thing for me is that people on the left helped elect Nixon by coming down hard on Humphrey for being LBJs VP. Fast forward, some of the same holier than thou types relentlessly attacked Hillary and helped Trump get elected.
Where would we be as a nation if the 68, 80, 2000 and 2016 elections had ended opposite of how they did? My argument is that we likely would have already accomplished the things that holier than thou people claim are the gold standard and achieving anything else would be wholly inadequate.

(15,472 posts)Conservatives say that he only got one right, the far-right William Rehnquist. Actually now that I think about it, conservatives get a lot of Justices wrong (or right because they become liberals lol).
Ford: John Paul Stevens: Liberal
Reagan: O'Conner and Kennedy: Moderate conservatives
Bush I: Souter: Liberal
Bush II: Roberts: Conservative, but sides with the liberals every 5 or so decisions
Trump: Gorsuch: Unknown at this time, but I think he becomes a moderate conservative.
The last one we got wrong was Byron White, appointed by JFK. He was ok sometimes but opposed Roe vs. Wade.
