Can someone please explain exactly why Cuban Americans support a person like Trump?

I know the history but I still do not understand the heavy support of Trump who seems to stand against everything of family and social value for immigrants and minorities in general.

My parents are the same. They don't like social programs because it's similar to socialism/communism. They are wrong about what social programs are in the US but republican are good at scaring them and framing it in the way that makes them scared.

The kind that helps people vs the kind that help people who don't really need it? What? Or is it strictly a government looking out for ordinary working men and women and those who are unable to work or the sick and elderly. I still don't get it.

Should government not help it citizens and seek to raise the standard of living for all or just a few?
It seems that there is no limits to wealth even if the holders of such wealth will never be able to spend all they have. At a certain point, having it all should be enough.

I personally agree with you. But they don't like using their tax dollars to help other people. It's always one of those "lazy" people who gamed the system when they shouldn't.

And of course, it's also the rhetoric coming from republicans claiming everything as "socialism". Have you seen any of their ads? Everything is "socialism" and is super bad. I also don't think the UBI talk helps.

Those great grandparents held onto the belief that the USA would somehow recover such property for them, teaching both that and that "socialism" is evil to their children, and then to their children's children, and then to their children's children's children.

In a nutshell, they're living in la la land.

The other part is the passed down response of socialism and anything that looks like it.

I have two friends that were born in Cuba. One of them is 100% Spanish and the other is 100% German, iows - they considered themselves European.

btw - Their parents died thinking they were going to reclaim the villa but the kids/ grandkids are all Democrats.

Grew up with the first wave of Cubans and heard numerous discussions over the years of how much Castilian blood was in an individual or their familia. Castilians were supposed to be super white or something in their eyes.

Totally unrelated but we live in a beach resort town and the Cuban girls had a heck of a time convincing their madres in particular that it was totally normal and OK to go around in a bathing suit when not actually emersed in the ocean proper.

Bathing suits that were modest in comparison to what younger females wear now I might add, not that there is a thing wrong with them.

Just like Faux News watchers do when some fact they don't like is presented.

Much of the older generation has died off but they hated Kennedy and Democrats mostly for the Bay of Pigs fiasco. Most of them became American citizens and were very proud to be one too. Of course, it was much easier then for all nationalities.

Unlike Mexicans today, by law if a Cuban could get one foot on American soil, they were in.

Vietnamese have been the most conservative of Asian groups, although that is fading now.

Vietnamese-Americans are more likely to choose President Donald Trump over Democrat Joe Biden in November’s election, according to the 2020 Asian American Voter Survey conducted by three Asian American civic engagement groups. But these results only enforce the growing frustration among a younger, more liberal Vietnamese-American generation.

were refugees from Castro's Cuba. That kind of resentment runs deep and for many of these folks, the idea of some sort of reconciliation with communist Cuba is just out of the question. So Trump's bullshit "tough guy" act appeals to them because they are responding emotionally, not rationally.
