(BTW - What WILL constitute our belief that a win has happened? The AP calls it? I know it doesn't really happen until the electoral college voted, but we've never actually waited that long.)
Anyway, back to my OP point. I listen to music while walking up and down the halls of my building for a half hour. Today it was the last two movements of Beethoven's ninth. I know that Beethoven was very interested in the political life of his time, and that he had something in mind when he wrote this, but I don't remember what. What is indisputable is that he was really, really happy and expected the whole world (millionen!!!) to celebrate.
Do you think we'll all feel like this, like a REAL CORNER HAS BEEN TURNED after the winner becomes clear? After we've brought our country back to the United States that elected Barack Obama? After we've got a way better understanding of the internal forces that threaten us and gear up to preserve our victory.
Think so? Hope so?????

(2,026 posts)... we will need to FOLLOW THROUGH on it. Some of the MOST important things we will need to do with a Democratic president and a Democratic House and Senate will be to blow up the filibuster (so Mitch McTurtle won't be able to stop everything dead in its tracks) and then to start vigorously plugging up all the many holes the current corrupt administration has exposed in our system. So that NOBODY will EVER AGAIN be able to get away with all this stuff. I'd like to see a Senate rule that REQUIRES the majority leader to take up ALL of the president's nominees and also ALL of the bills the House sends over. No Senate majority leader ever again can just IGNORE everything a Democratic House and/or president does. Another thing, EVERY candidate for president and vice president is REQUIRED to reveal FULL financial records. And federal laws that prevent gerrymandering, and protect the right to vote. No more of this nonsense with 10-hour lines at the polls or being purged from the voter rolls because you have a similar name to somebody several states over or feeling intimidated at the polls by thugs brandishing AR-15s. I could go on and on, there are so many things that can be done legislatively to fix all of this stuff. But first, Tuesday, hold the House, win the Senate and the White House.

(32,017 posts)Historically, we have known when one candidate has won when the other candidate concedes. Nearly always, this has been the case, and it almost always happens before all the votes are counted and long before the states submit their certified slate of electors to Congress.
This year, Trump may deny us immediate certainty. He may not concede. Only time will tell.

(317 posts)Winning is the first step, obviously, but if we are asked to move on we will have another him eventually & his cult will still believe they can do any & every flaunting of the law! They need swift & hard punishment for their poison! No new or old laws will be upheld if this doesn't happen!!!!!
