November 2, 2020
By Bob Brigham
Veteran elections analyst Charlie Cook was interviewed on election eve by MSNBCs Lawrence ODonnell on The Last Word.
On nights like this, everyone in Washington wants to know, what does Charlie think? Charlie Cook is Washingtons most experienced election analyst who always has the sharpest focus on the balance of power in the House of Representatives and the Senate, and the individual elections that can change those balances of power, ODonnell said.
Charlie Cook is a meticulously careful analyst whose judgments are never influenced by partisanship, just the facts he finds in the data, ODonnell continued. In the presidential race, Charlie Cook is now saying with something close to certainty that Joe Biden will win the election and the only question now is whether it will be a narrow win or a landslide. Charlie Cook says a landslide is more likely.
He expects Democrats in the House of Representatives to pick up more seats to strengthen their majority, by about ten more seats, he continued. And the United States Senate, which will be my focus of coverage tomorrow night, Charlie Cook says the Senate is increasingly less the case whether Democrats will take a majority, but how large it will be.

(50,567 posts)...the last thing I'm worried about is the morale of Republicans.
To be perfectly blunt, I hope many of them are so demoralized they walk away from politics forever - including the ballot box. The last four years are like a combination of the evils of Nixon, Reagan and both Bushes. The only way we're going to save this nation we all love so much, is for conservatism to die on the vine. We don't need the GOP to die and a new conservative party to take its place. It'll just be filled up by the people who tried to destroy the nation once. They need to get the hell out of the way and let functioning adults fix all the problems they created. And then they need to stay the hell out of the way. Permanently.

(933 posts)Having a reasonable discourse with a moderated party can help us navigate treacherous waters. We need an opposition party. It just cannot be this degenerate, zombie Republican Party that has so clearly turned to religious-fascism attempting to destroy precious institutions that have kept us safe for generations.

(25,908 posts)where a Democrat is running, is won by that Democrat.
I realize that probably won't happen, but it's my wish and hope.
And those we don't win this year, we win in 2022. I want to see the kind of Democratic majority that was gained in 1932.

(54,448 posts)I haven't actually seen Charlie Cook since 2004 (I think?).
He has lost a LOT of weight, and most of his drawl (he is from Louisiana), and has aged almost as much as I have!
But he is as sharp as ever, and while he doesn't get things 100% right all the time, he is good enough that he USUALLY gets things right, and his analysis is strictly statistical, never partisan. I like what he has to say this time.
