Let's say the majority is very close in favor of Repubs. Could Joe appoint a convenient number of them to his cabinet and thus gain the majority?
I dislike the idea of them in his cabinet (our cabinet.) but if it gave us the majority, I'd go for it.
How does that work?

Good plan.

(115,878 posts)to cabinet or other executive branch positions to give the Dems a majority in the Senate, then fires them a little later because they suck. Now they're neither senators nor cabinet members. Clever! Except that I'm not sure many GOP senators, if any, would accept a cabinet officer position in a Dem administration.

(17,865 posts)and chances our their party would banish them. You also need to find a Senator with a Democratic governor. Rand Paul or Mitch McConnell in KY (ha ha). Tillis or Burr in NC. Kennedy or Cassidy in LA.....

(15,812 posts)Youd have to pick a republican senator from a state that has a democratic governor and allows the governor to appoint a replacement.
I think there would be few takers.

I think that watching who Joe offers a job to will tell the tale. I would expect him to offer only those from Dem governor states.

(89,276 posts)if it means a democrat can appoint a democratic replacement.
But then there is the issue of special elections . So it might not last long.
Obama picked Huntsman to be ambassador which made him lose any chance of winning the Republican Presidential nomination and taking out what could have been a real threat to Obama's re-election .
