damned ad with the clip of that 47% smug snark from Romney. Has anyone ever answered him on that? I know there is a lot of talk about how he dissed the middle class that is repeated endlessly. But essentially, he is condemning the poor to starvation here. Has any of our pols spoken for the poor or the working poor. This is not just a middle class issue as he framed it.

(37,364 posts)that begging isn't allowed under some ordinance in town or make it a crime to sleep on the street if you have no place else to go. Doesn't matter why you are in those circumstances--your own poor decisions, being forced into bankruptcy, health circumstances, because no one will hire you since you were incarcerated. It doesn't matter to someone like him. He does want you to spoil his view or his beautiful mind.

(52,243 posts)first, many people who don't work *can't* work because they are children, seniors, or mentally or physically challenged.
my brother, for instance, is an employer's nightmare due to mental issues. he can shine in an interview, but it takes employers about 6 weeks to figure out that he's not right and they get rid of him and clean up his mess.
second, the unemployment rate being what it is means that the "job creators" aren't the lazy ones, not creating enough jobs to go around. it's like musical chairs, and saying there are too many people who don't want to sit down. hey, there are only so many chairs, SOMEONE has to lose.
third, rich pays for lazy. you can sit on your bum all day long if you're rich enough and choose to do so. poor people can't afford lazy. surviving is too much work. anyone who thinks poor means lazy doesn't know the first thing about poor. hell, they haven't even bothered to THINK about it for just a moment. that's all it takes to realize that poor + lazy = dead.

(9,796 posts)I'm on disability (here in the UK) for physical and mental issues. On the right day, I could maybe get through a job interview and then, a couple of days later, they'd find me carving my arms and and crying about the barking dogs (I have a phobia of large dogs so guess what shows up in my occasional hallucinations?). The conservatives and their media toadies here have created such an environment of hatred that unemployed people or disabled people are pretty much the most hated demographic in the country.

(8,020 posts)WTF is the actual advantage for most Americans in being American if they don't have enough food, shelter, and the basic necessities of life?
This country is - for the moment - rich enough to provide all of those things to the poorest of our citizens.
Being a Roman citizen meant something.
Being an American citizen means you can own guns, speak (more or less) freely, and even vote.
But what does that do for you if you don't have enough to eat?
