Mr.Bill
(24,330 posts)Actually I pointed out an example of how wrong it was. I live in a state that speaks 38 different languages, and if they are in large enough numbers in a given county, ballots in their language are provided. This country has no official language.

That's a lot of states where the majority of WOMEN think ripping babies from their mothers is OK so long as they are refugees and that killing 225,000 Americans from a preventable pandemic is just fine and lets kill another 2M.

I really don't see how any thinking adult would vote for the Orange Monster, it just escapes me how many of us are that stupid or racist or unfeeling
It's the thinking.
Trump AND the GOP in general, do not try to argue their case with thoughts and policy. Their messaging is almost always emotional. While Democrats also try to message emotionally, our focus is on policy and information about how those policies can make everyone's lives a bit better. Conservatives market primarily in fear, resentment, and anger. The leaders of conservative ideology market to voters who are definitely "done dirty" by the system only they direct the anger toward Black people, immigrants, women who want control over their reproduction, LGBT people, and other groups of marginalized people. They tell the story of how the government is corrupt WHEN THEY MAKE UP MORE THAN HALF of the government!! The people who follow them, do so because they are NOT thinking, they are reacting emotionally. They spend the day listening to Fox, listening to right wing radio, and reading conservative websites that are telling them that they are under constant attack by people who undeservedly are trying to take what is rightfully theirs.

(22,917 posts)Given a choice of living in a nation where only men could vote or one in which only women could vote, pragmatically, as a man, I would choose the latter. The discrimination would deeply offend me if I had no say, but life would be a hell of a lot better that way than having men rule unobstructed.

(778 posts)It is kind of fascinating that there is such a clear divide between men and women politically. When you get right down to it, our economic, familial, cultural, patriotic self interests should all be broadly be similar...and yet they are not. I wish I understood why at a deeper level, beyond just a trite declaration that all men are assholes. I'm not ascribing to that being said by anybody in particular here, but it is the underlying thought. Something definitely to think about.

There are more females in America than males - supposedly about 7 million!
That makes us guys a minority and by golly, we want our due!
Maybe if more of the supposed "Redneck, Right Wing Alpha Males" and asshole old white guys in power started being discriminated against, they might learn what it has been like for women forever.

(9,910 posts)Obama made the following comments near the shows end,,,
Our democracy deliberately discourages people from voting. All is related to our history.
Originally this comes from a society where only certain individuals could vote
white men who owned property
Later expanded to include
white men who didn't own property
Voters who could vote expanding as the country went along, slowly, with plenty of methods used by groups to obtain their right to vote.
The original start of it remains, lingers, persists. It has become ingrained into our society.
Certain windows exist WHEN people can vote. Resulting in LOW voter turnout around the country, within certain groups of peoples.
Some feel WHY vote since, nothing happens to my vote
VERY sobering talk.
Mr.Bill
(24,330 posts)(and I am sad I was not perticularly cognizant of this fact) black men were allowed to vote long before white women were. And when women got the vote, it initially did not include black women. And of course, as we all know, a black man was president before any white woman. Of course, I was cognizant of that one!

(2,787 posts)My guess is it would be a bit redder. If white. If reports are true more white women voted for Trump than 2016 and Trump did slightly better with African American males and slightly better with Hispanics then it is reasonable to deduce that Biden has done better with white males than any Democrat has done in along time. Didn't win them, but probably did better.
BainsBane
(53,072 posts)ETA: nope, I'm wrong. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/11/03/us/elections/exit-polls-president.html
But more of them voted for Biden than white men did, obviously.
standingtall
(2,787 posts)but my point was that if Trump was doing better with white women than he did in 2016 than Biden must've improved among white male voters not that he won among them or even that more of them voted for him than white women did.
BainsBane
(53,072 posts)I think Biden did improve among white men, but I'd have to see side by side exit polls to know for sure.
I also have a question regarding exit polls. How would they capture mail-in voters? Or do they?
standingtall
(2,787 posts)I would guess they've already got that information from registered voters in advance, but this is the first year and maybe the only year my state has had mail in ballots.
