Eight House races to watch (link: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57523182/eight-house-races-to-watch/)(CBS News) Just because it's a presidential election year, and most of the focus is on President Obama and Mitt Romney, doesn't mean there aren't a slew of other important races all across the country. Case in point: there are 435 races for the U.S. House, in every congressional district across the country that will determine whether Republicans will maintain control of the House. Democrats must pick up a net gain of 25 seats to take back control from Republicans, which many political observers say is a possibility, but definitely very challenging.
CBSNews.com has highlighted 8 races - four incumbent Republicans and four incumbent Democrats - that could be key to who controls the House for the next two years.
CA-52: Republican Rep. Brian Bilbray v. Scott Peters
...
CO-6 R: Republican Rep. Mike Coffman v. Joe Miklosi
...
FL-18: Republican Rep. Allen West vs. Patrick Murphy
...
MA-06: Democratic Rep. John Tierney v. Richard Tisei
...
NC-7 : Democratic Rep. Mike McIntyre v. David Rouzer
...
NV-03: Republican Rep. Joe Heck v. John Oceguera
...
PA-12: Democratic Rep. Mark Critz v. Keith Rothfus
...
UT-04: Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson v. Mia Love
Winning control (or at least some degree of balance) in the House is our toughest challenge this election cycle, and this contest is under-polled and under-reported. The article at the link is a nice summary of 8 very important bellwether races in the House.

Who will win the US House of Representatives?
(link: http://scienceblogs.com/gregladen/2012/09/26/who-will-win-the-us-house-of-representatives/)
California 6th House District Bera vs Lungren Latest info This is a very close race but observers have lately started to suggest that Bera has a better chance of beating the Republican incumbent now than even a few weeks ago.
California 24th House District Capps vs Moldonado Latest info This is a very close race mainly owing to redistricting which put long-time incumbent Capps in more conservative district. I think if the election was held today, Capps would win.
...
Illinois 10th House District Schneider vs Dold Latest info There are no recent polls for this race, and the older polls show very mixed results. The challenger, Democratic partys Schneider, has recently been said to be potentially doing better by various observers, but with no real data to back that up.

(350 posts)3. I really worry that we Democrats are getting overconfident because of the presidential polling
numbers and forgetting that we cannot get much of the Obama agenda through a Tea Party controlled House. We need to win back enough House seats so that the Tea Party Repunks cannot steamroll the process.
