Wow. RT @JimHeath10TV: 1.7 millions cast early voting ballots in '08. Husted says Ohio is already halfway past that with 5 more weeks to go.

(21,642 posts)I wonder if those early ballots are primarily from Dem-heavy counties.

(25,249 posts)if you make people wait in long lines at polling places on election day and do everything possible to make it hard for them to vote - what do you think people will do? Well of course - take advantage of early voting. I'm sure that the majority of those people that are utilizing early voting may have thought about this and that is why we are seeing the large numbers of early voters.

(11,252 posts)I voted early in '08 and had to wait in line. We delivered Ohio to Obama then and you can do it again!!

(15,412 posts)it must be an idiom I'm not familiar with. I'm not being snarky but I don't get where the vote is.
Is it more than halfway TO 1.7 million votes, or does it mean Ohio is .85 million (half of 1.7) more than 1.7 million.

(5,103 posts)Republicans have no power so we have no voting problems. On the contrary, Gov. Brown has expanded registration to election day starting in a few years.

(13,570 posts)Then they went TeaBag and tried to remove it last year, but we did a people's veto and CRUSHED that, so we still have it. It is very convenient for people who move a lot and have to keep re-registering.

(5,103 posts)That just started and I took advantage of it since we moved.
I love LA!
5 days later I received my card. Very efficient!
See what happens without republican interference!?

(13,570 posts)They send an absentee ballot to ANYONE who wants one. You don't actually have to be out of town. Get it in the mail. Vote in your kitchen. Put it in your mailbox. DONE. Never have to leave the house. No standing in long lines on election day. And I always email our city election office to confirm they received the ballot, just in case it got lost in the mail. Not that I'd be worried, but it is too important not to quickly check. Have never had a problem. Golden.

If the ballots were of epic proportions like Florida's this year, mail is really a must.

(9,874 posts)They get it out of the way early instead of worrying about what time to leave work on election day, whether they might get sick on election day, etc. Also the polls are less crowded and in states that allow all voting by mail they have more time to review ballot questions, etc. It is just a more relaxed way of voting and it is catching on, which is good, but I don't think you can look at how many vote early this year vs 2008 because early voting was newer then and not everyone realized how much more they would like it than waiting on lines on election day.
NJ now has no questions asked and no excuses needed absentee voting and I only found out about it a few weeks ago. I'd be willing to bet most New Jerseyans never heard of it. In 4 years I bet there will be a huge increase in those who vote absentee.

(85,996 posts). . . folks highlighting it know well that the state of the race today favors President Obama, and, Ohio election officials have estimated that as many as 40 percent of votes cast will be in the form of absentee and early voting.

(53,061 posts)1) The side with the most enthusiasm is building up a big lead. There is only Obama and anti Obama enthusiasm, not a good sign for Mittens
2) If you are organizinng in groups that have lower turnout, this is a good sign.
3) It significantly reduces the effectiveness of late ad buys. Some RW superPacs may give up. Ads if they see a huge EV %.

(32,723 posts)The State Legislatures decide to pick Electors and the way they DO THAT has been to honor the results of an election but in Florida in 2000 the Republicans were claiming they could do it on their own regardless of how people actually voted.
I can picture a Republican run legislature award its Electoral Votes to Romney despite the results of the election.
This would then be honored by the Republican run House of Representatives.
Wanna bet there will be more than one Senator signing the objection if they pull that stunt?
