Libya

Republicans are making noise about this being a game changer, similar to the Hostage Crisis for Carter. My sense is that if two weeks have passed and there's no corresponding dip in the polls, the noise is just that-noise. That is, unless there is some obscure information that will come out that will embarrass the President.

Honestly, what are DU's collective thoughts on the attack and how it will (or won't) affect the election dynamics?

And no change to election.

The ambassador didn't handle things perfectly, but on the other hand Romney shot off his mouth and was caught in a big lie, and looked really unpatriotic. If anyone suffers, it would be Romney more than Obama.

unless Romney has access to documentation that is embarrassing to Obama, bringing up Libya will only remind people what a calculating political machine he really is.

very doubtful it will be anything close to a gamechanger.

Romney's premature and stupid comment that night was self-defeating.

and whether a President like Romney will sell off the country, piece by piece, to China or the highest bidder.

4. From the Salon Article "GOP’s October surprise?"
Mon Oct 1, 2012, 04:58 PM
Oct 2012
The source, who has firsthand knowledge of private, high-level conversations in the Romney camp that took place in Washington, D.C., last week, said that at various times the GOP strategists referred to their new operation as the Jimmy Carter Strategy or the October Surprise.

He added that they planned to release what they hoped would be “a bombshell” that would make Libya and Obama’s foreign policy a major issue in the campaign. “My understanding is that they have come up with evidence that the Obama administration had positive intelligence that there was going to be a terrorist attack on the intelligence.”

7. Poll: Obama Still Holds Decisive Lead Over Romney On Foreign Policy

Poll: Obama Still Holds Decisive Lead Over Romney On Foreign Policy | Mitt Romney’s campaign, Republicans and their conservative allies at Fox News have been making a lot of noise the past few weeks claiming that the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya on Sept. 11 means President Obama is weak on foreign policy. But a new poll conducted on Sept. 24-27 suggests that the attacks aren’t gaining any traction. According to a new Politico/George Washington University poll, 52 percent of likely voters said Obama would “better handle” foreign policy compared to Romney’s 40 percent. The result is almost unchanged from when the same poll asked the question back in May and it mirrors what other polling has found this campaign season.

UPDATE

A new Washington Post poll conducted Sept. 26-29 found that Obama has a 14 point lead over Romney on which candidate Americans trust more to do a better job handling terrorism and a five point edge on trust in handling international affairs.

He's either literally delusional, or has some sort of metaphorical bomb hidden under a table.
