According to Carnahan, McDaniel put out a request for GOP officials around the country to recruit Republicans to make false claims of ballot fraud. She made it clear the party would amplify any claims of ballot fraud, as part of a plan to back Trumps false claims.
*snip*
Attempting to vote multiple times is fraud. Attempting to alter ballots is fraud. Deliberately discarding submitted ballots is fraud. But claiming that election fraud occurred when it did not is also election fraud. And encouraging thousands of activists across the nation to engage in deliberately fraudulent conspiracy puts the RNC and chair Ronna McDaniel at the center of a genuine vast right-wing conspiracy that demands to be given swift attention by both state and federal law enforcement.
As the Minnesota Reformer reports, Minnesota GOP chair Jennifer Carnahan appeared on an invite-only Zoom meeting with Republican activists on Thursday night, and told them that the party would back their play if they made claims of ballot fraud, even if there was no basis for those claims. And Carnahan made it clear she didnt mean just local support. In fact, she told the Trump activists, this wasnt a Minnesota thing, but a plan from Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel.

(9,771 posts)just goes to show how successfully RWers, via a coordinated, well-funded propaganda machine, have managed for decades to manipulate the truth. That scandal should be emblazoned on the public consciousnesses. Instead, Reagan is remembered as a Saint, even by some Dems. And Carter, just some weak loser, also by Dems.
Rs have the reputation of being "fiscally conservative," as if that means they're careful with money, when it actually means they're happy to spend, spend, spend, so long as it manages to shovel more wealth & power to rich Republicans, or Dems who may as well be.
Dems can be sleazy, too. There were times when the party was as dirty as the Rs are now. But that party has as little to do with today's Ds as modern Rs have to do with the party of Lincoln.
Rs can't win without lying, cheating, stealing, and even killing, yet they've managed to project their sins onto Dems so convincingly that nearly half the electorate stands rabidly behind a monster like Trump.
Under The Radar
(3,404 posts)Is predictable, simple to manipulate and yes considered a weakness by corrupt people.
But can you imagine a world where everyone drove over the speed limit or never obeyed traffic lights and signs? It is complete chaos when a power outage knocks out the traffic lights in my city. We have traffic laws to protect everyone on the road. We have to have government enforce those laws because there is no point in a law if it isnt enforced. But even with very strenuous enforcement, there will always be those who break those laws. But it is so much better than everyone breaking the rules. Government and life in general is the same way.

(6,926 posts)I knew about Reagan very shortly after it happened, but I didn't find out about Nixon until Ken Burns exposed it.
I realize people forget things, and especially incidents. I feel there's no excuse for forgetting about a trend ... but most people don't seem to realize a trend is a trend until it's too late. Can't we do somethng to help this stuff get memorable?
Dark n Stormy Knight
(9,771 posts)The RW propaganda apparatus is on-going, well-funded, expertly executed, and shameless and therefore very powerful at making a huge swath of people believe the BS story they're telling.
Two facts seal the deal:
1. The first thing a cult makes you believe is that everyone else is lying to you.
2. It's much easier to fool someone than to convince them they've been fooled.

Two years ago he was nearly defeated by Dan Feehan, an excellent candidate. Feehan ran again this year and was defeated by a larger margin. Of course, thus year there was a third party candidste, a trick the Republicans pulled around the state to siphon votes fr9m Democrats.
Not surprised that Jennifer is pulling this.

(20,767 posts)...they have always been opportunistic greedy weasels.
I remember when the "Republican" brand was so damaged by Nixon (my, doesn't THAT seem quaint in hindsight? Those were certainly different times... or maybe a different universe...) that Minnesota Republicans did a poll and found out more people would vote "Independent" than "Republican."
So they changed the name of the Party to "Independent Republican".
Same weasels, then and now.

Baier continued to push back on McDaniels claims, asking whether the country was going to see specific allegations of fraud. You know Bret, were working on that. And thats why Im saying, give us time, she said.
