Handicapped parking spots at stadiums are not for VIP tailgating

"To the Chiefs fans who popped open the trunk, hauled out a wheelchair, loaded it with beverages and went whistling on their way in Arrowhead’s parking lot:

Yes, you — the tailgaters with the blue handicapped parking sign hanging from the rearview mirror. Your stunt was captured on video.

And from the looks of it, no one in your entourage required that wheelchair, or the handicapped placard that gave you access to a space near the stadium’s entrance.

Chris Sampson shot the video during the Chiefs’ home opener. He’s a Raytown man who has grown increasingly frustrated by the disregard for disabled people at Arrowhead.

“They’re borrowing grandma’s placard for prime parking,” he said. “No shame, no shame whatsoever.”

His disgust appeared justified Sunday before the loss to the Chargers, although it’s difficult to judge for sure by eyeballing, as a lot of disabilities aren’t obvious. But hardly a wheelchair, cane or walker was in sight, just lots of people scurrying from cooler to grill.

I should set up a marriage site for people looking to find a 65+ blind spouse for tax purposes.

Just as we pulled up to the closest blue spot, a minivan ran ahead of us and took it. A young woman and child got out. I sat there, incredulous, then rolled down my window to shout, "we really could have used that spot."

She moved, angry as hell about it. I guess she was afraid I'd call the cops--but it's not as though they'd do anything about it.

I have a gigantic beef with people who use handicap spots when they aren't handicapped.

My mom, who didn't drive would urge me to use her hanging tag in my own car when I wasn't with her. I told her that I couldn't because other people needed the spot. She thought for a moment and realized I was right. She thought she was just helping me out.

I have seen several incidents were people who weren't handicapped or didn't have tags park in those spots and people who were actually handicapped having to park quite a ways away because of the other persons selfishness. I have called the cops on them.

technically, they are supposed to be carried when it's used and can be requested to be seen on demand by law enforcement.
