I read in Mother Jones online that Mitt thinks Libya will be his October Surprise?

That can't be right. a) it isn't a surprise, and b) he looked worse than anyone but the rioters in that whole thing.

That can't possibly be their supposed October surprise, can it? They've been making a mess of this campaign but they couldn't possibly be that weak.

...they say a faction of Romney's aides believe that revelations about the Administration's alleged intelligence failings and security arrangements are a "smoking gun".

Good luck.

The events in the Libya were tragic, but I think their impact has already passed, and since Stench flubbed his attack on the President, I don't think it helped him.

However, if the thinks something ELSE will have happen in Libya, then that's another issue.

Remember, Nixon and Reagan interfered with international events during their campaigns. One could put on their tin (aluminum) foil hats and think that the GOP made the anti-Muslim video that fueled the fire over there, but unless more happens, the impact from that is over.

4. The Republicans are trying to manufacture a scandal out of this.

They are now claiming that Obama had advance intelligence about this and did nothing because he was too busy campaigning. They are demanding a congressional investigation. And they are running ads with these claims using footage of the attacks on embassies.

Dems should really turn this into a scandal themselves. Can you imagine what would happen if Dems had run ads with images of 9/11 saying that Bush had advance intelligence about this?

7. I agree. I think the whole subject of saying it's due to the video vs "terrorists" is a very weak

argument.

But, if they have proof that they didn't do anything to beef up security (after advanced warning)...seems to me hard to defend.

What do you think Obama could say if this is true?

White House ignored about Libya. He couldn't understand why we don't send in FBI agents to Benghazi to what, collect fucking fingerprints. If it was safe there to do the CSI stuff they would be there now. Its clearly not safe there, sorry Sean, its not our fucking country, duhhhh....

I would like to think that we are right now gathering some good intel on the killers of Chris Stevens and just when this asshole Peter King is having his grandstanding stupid hearing on how Obama sucks on Libya and the evil Muslims, that some drones and/or Tomahawks will reign down fire on the appropriate camp or house or fucking car containing some or all of the culprits. And then our President says: ahhh, what were you guys saying again??? The administration has been very quiet on this front and I can only hope for a sort of White Corespondents Dinner type payback scenario for the fucks who did this and the fucks who are trying to exploit this issue!!!

It is a best case scenario for us but a real possibility I think...

At the coffee truck at the train station this morning I was showing my friend the coffee guy that jimmy kimmel lobster video. I said out loud "watch when romney comes in" and some 60ish woman intergeted "I guess you don't care about our dead ambassador".

to be dramatic. He knows this, himself, but won't fake it. Some people are looking for more blatant outrage. Then, tying the "bump in the road" comment with not beefing up protection on the consulate office was pretty effective. I don't think this will effect the average voter. But, it's got the wingnuts riled up. Of course, the hypocrisy compared to 9-11 is lost on these people.

8. Basic RW radio conspiracy theory

They are working to solidify their base with it I guess, since it is the running theme of the RW propaganda machine right now. But it seems that rMoney has been taking the RW propaganda machine too seriously all along, the whole 47% freeloader comments could have come straight from Limbaugh and look what that got him? He also seems to think that EVERYBODY just despises Obamacare, I guess because the RW machine created the Tea Party to say so. But that is not the case and older folks see him as a threat to social security and medicare also.

11. 10-to-1, it's the same thing as from that Independent report
Tue Oct 2, 2012, 10:30 AM

that came out a couple days after the attack (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/politics/revealed-inside-story-of-us-envoys-assassination-8135797.html). I think this Libya thing was just a perfect storm... they might have known there would be an attempt on the embassy (it being the anniversary of 9/11, they were probably on default high-alert)... but they felt that security was tight enough. And then the video dropped, and then the protests began, and the Libyan forces protecting the embassy were pissed... and everything came together to a) make it easier for the attackers to use the crowd for cover, and b) the pissed-off security was slow to respond.

I'm still not convinced it was planned instead of an opportunistic attack, though.
