At that point, he prepared his resignation letter according to a variety of reports.

Trump never got what he wanted out of the DoD going into the election and he's looking for a scapegoat. Trumps announcement of Esper being terminated (vs. resigning) is just a typical power play to show "who's da boss".

Let's just hope the acting has the same pushback. We'll see. I'm suspicious of anyone trump says "will do a great job" but I think we've learned that's just foreplay before me makes the big ask...and if the new guy doesn't go along, we'll have another acting secretary before the term is out.

IF that happens, then someone somewhere has to start thinking 25th.
