More Insanity from Todd Akin: Accuses Providers of "Giving Abortions to Women Who Are Not Actually Pregnant, Cheating on Taxes"
Akin is a gift that keeps giving.
Congressman Todd Akin, a Christian conservative running for a US Senate seat held by Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill, re-ignited an explosive debate over abortion rights.
The Todd Akin misogynist comment train just keeps rolling on and on.
Over at Slate's Double X, Amanda Marcotte exposes some old C-span footage of Akin as a congressman that matches up perfectly with the candidate's bizarre worldview evidenced by his "legitimate rape" comment, his decrying of Claire McCaskill as an unladylike wildcat , and the recently unveiled information that he was once arrested for protesting (read: blocking access to) an abortion clinic.
Here are three of the craziest Akin claims unearthed in these videos.
1-Women are mere climate-control and food providing incubatotion vessels for embryos:
"Now an embryo may seem like some scientific or laboratory term, but in fact the embryo contains the unique information that defines a person. All you add is food and climate control, and some time, and the embryo becomes you or me."
2-If we allow stem cell research (presumably step one), we will soon be creating human clones for the express purpose of harvesting their organs. This is something Akin calls "step three." His evidence for this dastardly plot? A sci-fi story his daughter wrote about it.

Missouri is the 'show me state'
Please show the US that you are not idiots and that you won't elect this idiot.

(47,675 posts)I know the details of the procedure and NO woman, I mean NO woman, would go through that unless desperate. His comments don't just disgust me, they make me want to vomit.
And in both of my personal cases I made it clear I would take full responsibility, but in the later one I didn't have a choice. She had it without my knowledge (until later) and I was one of three possible "sperm donors". I told her that, but it was still her decision, not mine. It's a brutal procedure and nothing you would want to go through for money. Where do these morons get these ideas? It's like the "Welfare queen" meme. Nobody wants to be on Welfare, and it sure as shit won't buy you a Cadillac. We have a phrase for people like rMoney and Akin - "out of touch with reality".

(22,336 posts)In crazy world where he lives, if you can have an abortion without being pregnant, that wouldn't really be a problem, right, because there'd be no fetus.
