(7,546 posts)Trump will be gone. The means by which this will occur aren't known yet. But it will be by any means necessary. There is too much money at stake. And the people who have the money know it. As time moves on, pressure mounts. And the longer it goes on, the worse it will get for Trumpers.
It's not that the corporate world wouldn't benefit from total fascism. Much of it would. The problem is Trump, who can't manage his own financial affairs, no less the affairs of a nation. Were there a competent autocrat in the White House, the titans of capitalism would believe that they entered fantasia. So fascism won't work this time because the leadership is flawed and won't learn from its mistakes. IMO, it's not because there's an ideological struggle and the idea of a democratic republic won out. It's because the path to fortunes for capitalists now runs parallel to the path to a more participatory democracy. Those two paths might diverge in unpredictable ways in the future, but right now, both are poised to dump authoritarianism.
We got our work cut out for us to strengthen institutions of democracy
