Trump is planning to sacrifice America on his alter of ego.
He knows that his life is over if he is removed from the presidency. He WILL end up in courts for the rest of his life trying to avoid a trial that will put him in prison. He seems to be the only one who understands the danger he is in. His empire of gold will quickly shift into dust as his fake fortune is exposed and his creditors come hunting for their just dues.
This is far worse than an emperor with no clothes. This is a child with no self control and hatred for all who would put controls on him. He will destroy as much as he can in an effort to avoid what is coming. Just like every child you see and hear screaming and thrashing in a grocery store because his controllers say no about some desired tasty object. Trump sees the presidency as an object he is, by birth, entitled to until HE decides he no longer desires it.
That republicans senators are abetting this behavior and amplifying it is like riding the tiger. Sooner or later you have to get off...then what? You senators and the Republican Party will pay a price for this seditious coup enabling crap that you cannot imagine. In the end you will not overthrow America, there are far to many of us who will simply not tolerate it. If you cant win elections, go home, figure out why, come back and try again. DO NOT engage in this chaotic behavior that threatens America. Neither you nor trump are entitled to do so.

Attention DEMS.......NEVER FORGET THAT IT WAS THE ENTIRE MEMBERSHIP OF THE REPULICON PARTY AND VOTERS WHO CORRUPTLY PUT HIM IN OFFICE, AND KEPT HIM IN OFFICE.......

(111,097 posts)We have been admonished not to interrupt the celebration of joy from winning the election, but we shall proceed with caution.
One thing we have learned over the last 4 years is that Donald Trump is unpredictable. Some might say "unstable"? He will do whatever he has to do to win, otherwise, he is a "loser". Nothing could be worse for him.
Will he use the "nuclear option" with the state legislatures? Of course he will! It doesn't matter if it is overboard or under-board, or criminal, he will do with whatever is available to him. If he can bribe state legislatures, he will bribe state legislatures.

Tell him he can't do something and that's the first thing he wants to do.
Which is why I'm carrying around an overwhelming sense of dread that he will screw with the electoral college and basically break the country.

(13,991 posts)aren't going to flip their votes. There's been numerous posts from knowledgeable people, including Laurence Tribe, that explain why it won't happen. The main real danger is that Biden will take office and 30% of the country will go on believing that he stole it. That's the issue we're going to have to deal with.

I hope someone is monitoring his communications with Putin.
Escurumbele
(3,392 posts)That has been my thoughts and my worry, he will not think twice to give away intelligence to Putin or anyone else who can help him, or even start a war. Some people say he is busy destroying proof of his corruption, but I think there is more to it.
And regarding his enablers? The reelection of the turtle and Graham proves that the voters do not pay attention and only vote for people in their party, that they voted against trump says a lot about trump, but I never expected the turtle and Graham to win, which is a very sad thing admitting the ignorance of the people.
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,854 posts)... but now I'm honestly wondering if he's trying to disable them here so Putin can more freely wipe us out.
I've seen no evidence for that, and I highly doubt it could happen, but I'm convinced that Trump would do it (if he could) after being promised great rewards from Russia in exchange.
Trump is obviously a self-absorbed psychopath. He kept making the pandemic WORSE in this country.

Riots, violence in the streets, false flag operations, etc etc.
Even more fun would be, what if they tried to goad us into reacting with a counter demonstration, and none of us showed up?????
Think about it..... a group of fully armed to the teeth Trump Humpers, all ginned up by their chicken shit leaders, left standing there with nothing to do except play with themselves. Better yet, if the mass media would grow a pair and not embellish the right wing's "so called" performance on the TV.

(9,993 posts)That still wouldnt save him because the election has been held and Biden will be sworn in on January 20, but it would create the kind of violence that Trump craves to make him feel important.

(8,820 posts)I have talked to these Old, Republican, White Men about the future of the things that their opinion/actions will cause, due to their short sightedness...
About the environment, the hardship on their children, and even worse their grand children, international cooperation, etc etc etc.
In almost every instance, they basically say: What do I care, I will be long gone.........
It was best demonstrated, by a bumper sticker on a very expensive car that I saw last week: GOT MINE, FUCK YOU........

(1,336 posts)As one scholar said on CNN yesterday, there are unwritten rules that have always been followed. Now, because those rules are indeed unwritten, Trump and his cabal have managed to push past and do their own thing. As in McConnell advising that it's perfectly legal for Trump to (fill in the blanks) because there's nothing in the Constitution that forbids it.
This is their fallback.
A country's constitution should be a living document. Yes, it has Amendments, but getting them through (think the ERA) can take years and years, and then they die a slow deah. The Electoral College is a prime example from an non-living document since it still exists.
And...it seems to me that the whole "checks and balances" thing doesn't actually work when you have a wannabe dictator in the White House and a spineless Senate that is terrified of him.

(1,351 posts)I know I dont, but right now I can only control what I can control. Joe Biden and his team see everything we do and even more so. With members on his transition team like Pete Buttigieg do you really think they arent prepared for this? I remember reading a few weeks back where the Biden team stated they had 4000 lawyers already lined up to work on any pre or post election issues.
All I can personally do right now is help as much as possible in the GA runoff, remain hopeful (versus panicked), and for now at least trust that Biden and his team know what they are doing and are well prepared, which I fully believe they are. Because they are the people right now who have any sort of control over this.
Trump will try to do anything, nothing is too evil or criminal for him, but for now I will focus on what I can control.

(121 posts)Trump never had any intention of stepping down if he lost. It is not only his legal problems which would end up in him spending the rest of his life in prison. it is also the "loser" label which to him is the absolute worst thing in the world, as his awful father had hammered into him since he was born.
He is unpredictable on many levels, but very predictable as far as his intention to not step down and never concede. This is now on the GOP. Are there enough pragmatic and reasonable minds there to make it clear they will not support him if he refuses to step down, or are they now all in his image, which would probably mean a civil war.
If the Democrats allow him to stay in power, future elections would be farcical, because trump and his successors, probably his children would declare victory after every election regardless of the outcome and prevent Democratic winners from assuming office.
