Apparently there is some 6 year old video that they are going to release. One assumes it is supposed to be embarrassing to Obama
somehow.

(24,414 posts)in light of all of the controversy over his attendance at Rev. Wright's CHRISTIAN church for several years. Anyway, even if he is Muslim, so what? In this country, that doesn't disqualify somebody. Remember that "no religious tests for public office" part of the Constitution?
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)Nothing wrong with being a Muslim, a Jew, a Buddhist, a Christian, et cetera, as long as you say you are. If Candidate X said he belonged to religion Y when he belonged to religion Z that would be problematic.
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,414 posts)I wouldn't even care at this point if he were lying about it. You think most people are going to care about it? The Republicans thinking of launching an impeachment tribunal if he were lying about this? We have REAL problems in this country that need to be addressed, most of which the Republicans in Congress are REFUSING to allow anybody to address. People are too broke, jobless, hungry, in need of practical solutions to their woes to care much about such petty nonsense IMHO. If the Republicans are going to tout this as a way to save Prince Romney, then let them have it! It will at least keep the rest of us amused for a second.

(99,710 posts)I doubt Senator Obama made any incendiary remarks. I see this backfiring. That's why it's being released on Hannity and not FOX NEWS.

(49,000 posts)Buzzfeed has a story, too, saying this may be the tape Drudge is screeching about:
http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/is-this-the-video-drudge-is-teasing
The video's been online since 2007.
Nothing outrageous in it. Drudge's headline is another silly example of wingnut hysteria.
Lex
(34,108 posts)highplainsdem
(49,000 posts)But it says that's the transcript "As Prepared for Delivery."
Drudge's site has some "quotes" that aren't in the transcript, above the headline:
THE ACCENT... THE ANGER... THE ACCUSATIONS... THE SERMON...
THE SHOUT OUT TO REV. WRIGHT, WHO IS IN AUDIENCE...
'My pastor, the guy who puts up with me, counsels me, listens to my wife complain about me. He's a friend and a great leader. Not just in Chicago, but all across the country'..
FOXNEWS 9 PM ET...
'We don't need to build more highways out in the suburbs'...
And there's a headline below the main headline saying the Daily Caller will have the "unscrubbed" video.
I'd guess those two "quotes" that Drudge gives are what the wingnuts think are most outrageous.
But I don't see anything outrageous about the comments on Rev. Wright (though it might seem that way to wingnuts who demonize him, who weren't going to vote for Obama anyway). And even if there is a quote in there saying "we don't need to build more highways out in the suburbs," then I'd guess that was just where Obama wandered off script while talking about the importance of public transportation, and he was contrasting the important of that with building more highways to the suburbs. Which means the quote wouldn't upset anyone in context, but of course Fox and their wingnut friends will take it out of context.
This is from the speech transcript on that blog:
We know that we have to invest in transitional jobs too. When there are people who are homeless, veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder from this war in Iraq, and thousands of children aging out of foster care, we cant expect them to have all the skills they need for work. They may need help with basic skillshow to show up to work on time, wear the right clothes, and act appropriately in an office. We have to help them get there. Thats why I have called for $50 million to begin innovative new job training and workforce development programs.
But what good are these efforts if men and women cant afford the bus fare or the subway fare or the car insurance to get to the training center or new job. That is why, as president, I will invest in transportation.
We know that three-quarters of welfare recipients live in areas that are poorly served by public transportation and low-income workers spend up to 36% of their incomes on transportation. That is why I will fight to ensure that the federal Jobs Access and Reverse Commute program provides grants to improve low-income access to transportation. And that additional federal public transportation dollars flow to the highest-need communities. No one should be denied work in this country because they cant find public transportation in their neighborhood.

Now, I will admit that as a video editor, there does appear to be a couple of edits in this video (if you listen closely, the noise bed doesn't exactly match up a couple of times they go to a cutaway)... but I can't imagine he said anything too controversial in those parts, and any edits were most likely made for time (if I'm recalling correctly, Youtube used to have a 10 minute limit).

(37,648 posts)Something like that.
But even if it's true, it can't be much. It probably was found for the 2008 election & shown but didn't have any effect, or it was decided it was nothing & wasn't shown.
Too much buildup. If a video is really something, you don't need to build it up that much, IMO.
