A resounding FUCK NO!
The GOP is no longer a political party for the betterment of the country, but a self-serving set of scumbags.

(17,329 posts)So my answer is NO.
Here is the tough part. The Republican Party is really 70 million unrepentant people. It is made up of our family, neighbors etc. So we have to treat the individuals the same way we would treat trump or McConnell himself.
No more we just dont talk politics, or they are really good people other than voting for trump, they are friends of 30 years.
I think they should all face the tough consequences of destroying lives and our democracy. Im in the shun and shame crowd.
Maybe some will come around when they are faced with the consequences of their actions. Most likely will not.
Do you really want to be around these people?

(32,626 posts)of what they've done, and are still doing. They've suffered zero consequences, while putting a world of hurt on the American psyche, that will last for generations. They don't want 'forgiveness', they just want it all.

If not, then forgiving them is just enabling them to try another coup in four years.

(10,839 posts)Otherwise, they'll groom another wanna-be mobster/despot, someone more clever and competent to sell the same snake oil. We now know about 47% of the American public is susceptible to the strongman propaganda having swallowed the Trump line willingly, happily. Bring in a younger, more articulate and seductive fascist barker and anything could happen.
So, no. No forgetting nor forgiveness, not until at the very least the country has a Truth and Reconciliation committee to expose everything and everyone involved. Then we can move forward. With or without the GOP.

(13,059 posts)President Elect Biden wants to unify the country and he has said that he will be president of everybody including Trump voters. And he has said that he will make an effort to work with Republicans. So where does that leave us?
