Trump is incapable of admitting loss--- this is well known to anyone who observed his past dealings wherein he never "lost" but always had an excuse for being on the losing side.
Erin Burnett's talking to people telling her WH insiders say he won't ever admit he lost the election, but is looking for the way out where he doesn't have to admit Biden won. All of his insiders seem to be telling him to let it go, but he simply will not let it go.
OK, that's psycho Trump, but what I cannot understand is why his party isn't abandoning him. Nixon won re-election with the largest numbers history, and the public was OK with his war and environmental policies. Shit, he was even "That close" to a national health plan.
Any other President with this Wikipedia paragraph would be a hero:
Watergate was small change compared to what our current stench in the White House is doing. When the tapes came out, Senate Republicans told him flat out they supported his impeachment and forced him to quit.
What is different now? I don't believe for a minute that Trump has enough on all of them to force them to do his will. I could be convinced that most of them are low-grade morons that can't find their ways out of a sinking boat, but not one of them has the wit and character to do the right thing? I could also be convinced that Frog Face has some completely in his power, but all of them?
I could see Romney marching over to the Oval Office saying "Here's the way it is..." but only if he led at least small group of Senators. Nope- the Senate Republicans are just a mealy-mouthed group of ignorant ass-kissing cowards.
How did they get this way? They make Goldwater look like a towering giant simply because he had principles. I didn't like his principles all that much, but he had them.
McCain, too.

(30,761 posts)There might be a few republicans who can be pressured to go with him to the White House. Trump does not have to admit defeat openly. All he has to do is let the transition go forward, "just in case."
Romney wants to be President so badly that he can taste it. This might be his ticket to a nomination.
Romney is the only Senator I can think of who might be convinced. Are there any House members with a few stray principles that have not yet burned away?

(6,206 posts)both from Arizona told him to resign and the he did not have the support. Rhodes was Speaker of the House at the time and of course we all know that Goldwater was in the Senate.

(28,811 posts)in some cases, they are in the cult. but for others it's the fear: they will be primaried, they will be vilified, who knows? they could be assassinated if they cross trump.
to say these people lack courage or patriotism would be a grotesque understatement.

The GA run offs. They cannot afford to piss off the cult. Future primaries too (as another poster stated), but GA is the pressing concern.

(9,313 posts)The corrupting influence of talk radio and FOX on this country cannot be underestimated.
It immobilized Democrats, who refused to act boldly for fear of "backlash" from the right-wing noise machine.
As right-wingnut propaganda spread, the uninspiring Democrats lost more and more ground. They didn't draw lines in the sand and stand their ground on issues of moral principle.
With "our" leaders failing to stand strong for fundamental principles, and the right-wing spreading their anti-government (as if the government was some foreign thing rather than our collective will), anti-Democracy, anti-American belief systems, those fundamental values ceased to carry power inside the beltway. "Political expediency" takes precedence on both sides of the aisle. (I will never forget Nancy Pelosi's insane statement that she would support impeachment of Bush if she were not the Speaker. Let the real meaning of that sink in. It says it all.)
The negative feedback loop of growing right-wingnut power and uninspiring compromise of Democrats gave us the stolen election of 2001, the reign of the torturers, and ultimately, Trump.
The country has been dragged so far into right-wing crazytown that Nixon would be branded a raging liberal today.
