The United States has about 30% of the worlds wealth.
The United States has 5% of the worlds population.
The United States has 20% of the worlds Covid-19 cases.
The United States has 20% of the worlds Covid-19 deaths.
The United States does not by any stretch of the imagination have the worlds worst government.

I don't remotely believe the statistics out of Russia, China, India, Pakistan, and other corrupt countries.

So yes, our handling of this absolutely sucks, but we also might not have accurate stats for comparison either.

As well as probably a below-average level of healthiness in our population vs. many other parts of the world. Lots of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high BP, poor diets, drinking, drug abuse, etc.

A lot of the world does smoke tobacco at higher rates than people in the US however.

Widespread testing DOES in fact increase the 'known cases' (not 'cases' like Trump inaccurately says all the time) which is what is measured in the '20% of cases' in the OP.

8. I really believe it started with local school boards.

Hardly any normal ~30 year old can tell you:

How long can a person serve as president
How long is a term
Are there any limitations on what a president can do while in office
What is a constitution

I was surprised when I talked to my neighbors.

It started when I showed them a video of Musk's Falcon rocket going up and the 1st stage separated (They thought something went wrong and part of if fell off) and then the first stage landed. They have not been taught anything about science or civics.
