gasoline, would you simply follow them around repeating "Please don't do that! You're endangering all of us!"?
If a neighbor purchased a tiger and placed it in an ordinary dog pen in his backyard, would you stop at verbally criticizing them for endangering your family?
If someone began a walk through a crowded mall wildly swinging a Samurai sword, would you just point at him and tell him he "should be ashamed"?
Why in hell are we responsible patriotic mask-wearers not getting loudly pissed off at non-maskers polluting our air? At the least, why are we not summoning management and insisting that either the self-centered ass leave or wear a mask?
These idiots must be shamed, shunned and, if necessary, arrested.

(16,254 posts)I agree. It is not only frustrating, but selfish and dangerous. Many that I see would improve their appearance by wearing a mask. I used to think it was because they thought they wouldn't look macho if they wore a mask, but I believe they are in that crowd that doesn't like to be told what to do. Those are the majority of Trump followers. Give me my fredumb.

(8,445 posts)After this happened, she had a very bad week, health-wise. We both sent emails to Kroger, and were assured it would be handled. I'm confident that NOTHING was done.
A few weeks ago I ran into the store manager that I originally talked to on the phone on the night this happened. She told me that she tried to call me, but the call didn't go through. I told her that my daughter still didn't feel comfortable going into the store. And she replied, "That's fine." What an idiot. I told her it wasn't fine for my daughter. She said she was sorry "that it happened".
So, as I said, NOTHING happened. Funny thing, though, is that manager disappears now whenever she sees me in the store. I wonder how long she's going to feel like she has to hide from me.
What I do now is I just report non-compliant stores to the health department and hope for the best.

(32,068 posts)You do think twice about saying something to these dumb mouth breathers when they are 30 years younger, big and mean looking, and packing a gun. I give them dirty looks a lot, but they probably just think Im a demented kook.

(7,820 posts)I would most likely call the cops. Do you think theyll do something about an anti-masker? I get what youre saying, but Im not putting myself at risk confronting these assholes. Theyre literally begging for a fight. And too many of them are armed.

(19,114 posts)Everyone has an excuse why the rules dont apply to them. People are getting exposed and then thinking, well, we were all exposed so we might as well have Thanksgiving.
Everyone has an excuse. Everyone has a reason why they can ignore the rules. If you get exposed, you quarantine, period. People assume that they just have already had it because they were exposed. Or that they dont have to quarantine because they were exposed and didnt get it right away.
Its maddening.

(49,043 posts)It should be stated "Your right to personal freedom ends at the point where it endangers my health".
This is because they DO have a right to personal freedom of not wearing a mask, such as at home for example. In non-pandemic times, they would have a right in public, provided they had not been told they have an infectious respiratory disease with grave consequences. But in these times, of course that right is limited because uncontrolled viral spread is so easy and dangerous with this disease.
Then they will take it to the absurd contention that Covid-19 is some degree of a fabrication. At which point there needs to be societal acknowledgement of the science.
Only when they can be emotionally persuaded out of their emotional attachment to a fantasy, then they can see reality.
So ultimately, yes, they have rights, but they do not have a right to their own set of FACTS.

(2,606 posts)"Pet tiger" and "escaped pet cobra" are my new answers when someone says there are too many regulations in this country.
It started because I saw a news item on an escaped cobra in TX, and was going to show it at work. So when I searched for "escaped pet cobra" there were about 17 DIFFERENT news items. Why are people allowed to keep exotic animals as pets?

(11,370 posts)(mine for instance) have publicly stated that they are not and will not be enforcing health codes or mandates. So in that scenario, it really boils down to a neighbor against neighbor thing. And, as we've seen amply demonstrated on the news, a lot of these anti-maskers are not just entitled and belligerent -- some portion of them are clearly "off" as well. I'm not at all comfortable with "engaging" them under the circumstances.

He spends his time on right wing radio and been featured on Fox several times , our own version of Sheriff Joe . All 3 county commissioners are out with Covid right now although they said they practice masking and social distancing ,Their last Commission meeting none of them were wearing masks or social distancing although they did have them around their necks .

(54,437 posts)Whereas a nut case wildly swinging a samurai sword around would be visible from far off, that same nut case carrying a perfectly legal concealed .357 magnum, that he is equally as willing to use as the sword wielder, is not as easily identified or as quickly avoided.

(11,567 posts)A few months ago, a kid had a non-conforming gathering at his place of residence on TWO CONSECUTIVE NIGHTS! At some early point, he was warned about what would happen if the police returned to find the behaviour still happening. They did, it was, and he was fined $2300.
Now, a single adult without a mask in an enclosed public space is subject to a fine of $230 for the first offense. Berating the "store security" or however you'd like to view them, can get you carted away, fined, or both.
All of this is a very far cry from Qatar, where the sentence can be a fine of $55,000 US and/or 3 years in prison. They are VERY serious about this issue.
