Art Prodigy Tyler Gordon
Tylers living room in San Jose is filled with his painting supplies and the art he has made. He paints many free-art from images from tv or movies, and then there are some he paints while sitting on a stool. Lately, he said hes been at it for about four hours every day, to fulfill the orders that have come pouring in since he appeared on Little Big Shots and at the Juneteenth festival.
TG: I paint from my soul, from deep down. I guess you can say that I paint my feelings. I put some of me in every piece I do. My style of painting, as well as my speed, sets me apart from the other artist. When I did my first painting, which unbeknownst to my mom (I had it in me), I shocked her by the fact that I could paint, let alone the fact that I finished it in approximately 20 minutes.

____The universe has a unique way of working out for those who dont give up. Tyler Gordon is a prime example of this age old notion. Like most young kids, Gordon was enamoured with sports and wanted to compete. He saw his older brother playing basketball and wanted to try his hand at this, as well as football, two of the most popular and exciting sports. However, to be a successful athlete one must possess incredible physical attributes and strong genetics. Gordon was born deaf in one of his ears, which left him with a complete stutter, this did not stop Gordon from pursuing his dreams, it was just the beginning.
Gordon was told he could not play on his youth football team as a receiver because of his hearing impairment, instead of becoming frustrated and leaving the team altogether, he became a cheerleader and won three national championships, as well as three international cheerleading championships. Like many kids who love sports, Gordon was in awe of his favorite athletes, mainly from his locality of Northern California. He decided to do something about it and pursue what became his passion, talent, and pathway to the stars.
Gordons collection of paintings includes local superstars like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, James Jones, Vernon Davis, Derek Carr, and Marshawn Lynch. As well as famed legends that came before his time, like Michael Jordan and Jerry Rice. Eighty percent of Gordons paintings are sports related, the other twenty are of people that have passed away, like the legendary Kobe Bryant.
Regardless of Gordons incredible success and fame that he has attained at such a young age, he continues to prioritize school and dreams of attending NYU for their notorious art program. He also wants to help kids like him, those who have a speech impediment, to flourish and be inspired by his work, with an ultimate goal of creating a center for kids with speech impediments. To check out Tylers work and witness the development of a young prodigy, visit his Instagram page @Official_TylerGordon and his Facebook Page, Tyler Gordon Young Artist. He often does live paintings as well as instructional videos on both social media channels. If you are ever in San Jose, make sure to stop by the Gloria Gale Art Gallery, where you can see Gordons work on display.

We all know what's coming next. It happened with Obama's HOPE poster.
If that painting was based off of a photo, the picture taker will jump in and claim an infringement.

(12,676 posts)DaVinci, Rembrandt.., whether painting in watercolor/guache or oils, a close observer can often see the reminents of faint pencil at the edges of many great paintings and portraits.
The current method of portraiture typically starts with a light pencil sketch of a photograph, and fills in from there.
Some artists will use a pantograph machine, some will use a projector, and some will freehand with the photo in view. But whatever technique, they all still start with a sketch in pencil.

(7,530 posts)I can imagine sitting close to a large canvas might cause some issues with scale in perspective, and you want to map major areas out first.

(86,005 posts)...and anecdotal accounts suggest his talent is 'freehand' which doesn't rely on sketching.
One of his influences, Bob Ross was a master at this.

(42,862 posts)Not thick-black obvious coloring-book outlines or paint-by-number.
bigtree
(86,005 posts)...I've read several profiles and Tyler paints spontaneously from images and life subjects.
There's no mention at all that he uses such a crutch. If you have something which shows this, fine, make your point, but you've attempted to degrade his talent a bit here without any evidence at all.

(42,862 posts)I fail to understand the hostility that's being directed toward me when I've not behaved that way toward you, or toward the artist.

You imagined one.
I asked you for evidence of this.
You produced none, but your feelings.

...this is a simple contour painting which doesn't require a sketch-in.
It's not especially detailed, so it doesn't require a pre-sketch. You can see the artist working from the center out, and establishing the contours of the face in relation to where he placed her hand.

(11,564 posts)IMO, portraits are the most difficult paintings, the human face being so complex and striking, yet so subtle, as well.
Take it from me. If I honed my skills for a while, I could draw reasonable stick figures, but my wife actually sells her paintings. I see art all the time.

(14,494 posts)I appreciate Sen. Harris for following this up, both to show humility from our leaders and to give this talented young artist a big moral boost in these trying times.
We need all of those gentle touches we can get right now......
What a contrast with the chaos, meanness and destruction of the last four years.

(3,557 posts)She was my first choice during the primaries and I was overjoyed when Biden selected her for VP. She reminds me of both Michele and Barack Obama in many ways - shes a people person and just has such an awesome presence (not to mention whip smart and more than suited for presidential level leadership).
I cant wait to see Harris take the reigns of our party in the future.
Not to mention that the portrait is awesome in and of itself. The artist, regardless of the fact that hes 14, is quite remarkable.
Have any of the trumps ever inspired people like this? Maybe Im just inside a left wing bubble, but I never see this sort of thing from the right....
