I've never actually met her husband or her. My cousin is part of the evangelic Southern Baptist wing of the family. While his father is OK, as preachers go, I tend to rub him the wrong way since I have absolutely no respect for religion.

But his son is a talented economist and obviously has good taste in his choice of spouse.

You would have a geat-grandparent in common.

If you don't have a grandparent (or great, or great-great, or on up) in common, there's a removal somewhere. In other words, in order NOT to be a removed cousin, you must both be in the same generation. Your first cousin'd child is not in the same generation you are, because your first cousin is, and that cousin't child is one generation of. Hennce, forst cousin, once removed.
