Pelosi and Schumer are supporting the Manchin and Coons bipartisan compromise COVID relief bill, which includes Corporate Liability Immunity.
After watching Rachels segment on the crimes of Tyson against their workers, it is my firm belief this must not be included in any COVID relief bill.

I don't like immunity for corporations either, especially the ones for gun manufacturers that are already in place. I don't want to see more of them, but I'm not willing to let people die to achieve that. As long as McConnell controls the Senate, there may not be an option.
It's easy to oppose things. What's hard is getting legislation passed.

(53,066 posts)You rather not see federal funding for PPE, unemployment relief, or other economic aid for COVID than compromise on immunity for corporations. The good news for you, is that you will very likely get your way and nothing will be passed.
I think the provisions for corporate immunity are disgusting, as I said. I'm just not in a position where I'm willing to refuse to allow any legislation. So that is where we differ.
Now, if you can convince people in red states to pressure their Senators, that might be able to have an impact in dislodging McConnell from his ultimatum. Given what we know about Republican voters, however, I think that highly unlikely.

(17,019 posts)"In the spirit of compromise we believe the bipartisan framework introduced by Senators yesterday should be used as the basis for immediate bipartisan, bicameral negotiations," Pelosi and Schumer said. They said they would try to build upon the approach, which has support in the House from a bipartisan "problem solvers" coalition.

(8,207 posts)Having translators tell workers that everything in the plant was fine when they knew the virus was spreading, while managers were betting on how many workers would get sick and die has me rethinking corporate liability immunity as a line in the sand.
I'm still torn. I know people in the restaurant business who need relief. I know someone in the hospitality industry who is having to choose between buying heating oil and paying rent. I honestly don't know which causes more harm: withholding covid relief to people who need it or allowing corporations to be so utterly callous without penalty.
