feds crack down on animals on airlines, allowing only legit service animal DOGS instead of

loads of various species passed off as comfort animals. the service animals must meet a narrow definition and not be just a dog somebody wants to drag to grandma's house for the weekend.

about time. bad news is now what will my service salt water crocodile eat on the flight.

Airlines were still afraid to do much about it.

I had a flight from Puerto Rico in that time with no less than five “comfort” dogs onboard who were a huge hassle for other passengers, not to mention the crew.

Glad to see them cracking down.

I see it every fall on flights from Seattle to Palm Springs as the wealthy elderly take their nippy little dogs on the snowbird migration. Appalling to me.

And not just for the reasons above, but to allieviate distress of the poor critters dragged onto planes. I can barely stand it, so how does a service armadillo cope?

My nephew has been faking disabilities for years, and uses his hunting dog as a "service dog". He bought a number of service dog jackets and harnesses online, as well as several fake service animal certificates.

What is needed is a genuine system for training and classifying service dogs. There are many excellent firms that can provide very well trained service animals, but there is no way for airlines and other businesses to differentiate between a legit service animal and a pet in a service animal vest.

At least I saw it on the internet, but I imagine it was getting out of control when they discovered how varied people's pets are. When allowed, someone is going to declare their Tasmanian Devil a comfort animal.
