"I called the Registrar's office today and asked how we verified the absentee ballots, that the person who is alleged to have voted, actually did. I was expecting a computer program or at least a random sampling. Wrong. The Registrar's office verifies nothing and only checks an individual's voting card if somebody alleges that one person didn't cast a vote. So trust don't verify. Keep this in mind next time you see some Sec of State or some politician talking about how legit the election is and how secure the vote was. Especially, a month after the election, one county in upstate NY is still finding ballots. Getting a free, fair election with integrity is not too much to ask and spending what it takes to produce it has been a collective and intentional failure."
One local responder wrote dryly: "Please share any posts you put up about this in 2016."
Her response was perfect. He did no such thing in 2016 and we know it. His outrage over "fair election with integrity" is laughable.
I'd like to respond with "Sore loser!" but he's a neighbor and has been very helpful to us. IOW, he is kind and generous with friends and neighbors, most (probably all) of whom voted for Biden in this heavily blue section of denim blue New Haven.

They're not going to go away....

(7,228 posts)...they bitched about the process!
And when it landed in the Senate and McConnell set up the rules for the Senate to act on impeachment; quick, no evidence, no witnesses, etc....(dead freaking silence.)

(9,129 posts)would have us believe, there would be dozens and dozens of documented or accurate eyewitness accounts all over the media and Republican prosecutors would be moving those violators cases right now.
I would remind hold-out Trumpies that many of the states Biden flipped back last month still have Republican legislators and prosecutors with little incentive to ignore Democratic scofflaws violating voting laws. If there had been such cheating, theyd be prosecuting them. They arent, ergo there was very little, if any, voter cheating.

(63,912 posts)After that died down, I thought he was finished.
This is the endgame, I think.

(9,129 posts)Largely Republican-controlled; neither diligent nor ambitious Republican prosecutors have sufficient incentive to let vote-cheater Democrats skate. Not if they wanted to move up in Republican Party ranks.

(22,166 posts)they got caught doing exactly that, and now are faced w/ various election/voting crimes. All republicans.
These trump idiots mouth off without knowing the facts and are getting slammed w/ real life when they get caught doing the very thing they were ranting and raving about (vote twice, etc.). How many of them will go down in flames before the message sinks in, that elections are in fact, secure?

(7,947 posts)"They are volunteers. They're your neighbors. They're retired teachers and retired accountants and retired grocery store clerks, and also current state and local government workers. They are just regular people. They do this every election-- volunteer, or work for the $100 or so that's paid to pollworkers. They are Republican and Democratic and Independent. They all bring donuts and snacks and make coffee for each other. They've done this every election and they would know when something was wrong... and they'd say something, because they care about the voters and their local area. You have to consider-- when you believe Trump about fraud, you're calling your neighbors liars and cheats. And they're not. They're just neighbors doing a job so that you can go vote."
That's something Trump believers have to hear: "If you want to believe Trump is telling the truth, you have to believe everyone else is lying. And we're not, and you know we're not. We're regular people. You know us. You rely on us every day, and we rely on you. If we were lying all the time, you'd know. So here it is: You can believe we're all lying to you, or you can accept that Trump is lying. Which is more likely, given your experience?"
I read that the best way to help guide Trumpers to reality is to ask questions that aren't barbed or lecturey (obviously I am no good at this). I guess that would be like: "Hmm. You know, when I go to the polls, I see all the pollworkers, and they're just regular people. Have you had that experience? Like have you ever gone to the polls and seen a neighbor working there?"
I'm not sure it's worth it, but if asking questions can get them to regain some modicum of rational thought, I should try it.

(63,912 posts)to ensure a fair election. He didn't work this time because of Covid concerns (we're old) but he is not going to take on the neighbor because we work mutually beneficial projects (fencing between our houses). And he's seen my husband there. what you say is true in his case!
What has made this all worse, his family was recently subjected to a house invasion by two young guys who stole his car and trashed it. They actually drove it across our lawn to get away before the cops came. We didn't hear it, being asleep, at 3 am when it happened. He had an alarm. The cops came within moments but no leads yet.

(7,947 posts)I hope the neighbors can help keep a watch now and check up, and that the police get some information.

(25,983 posts)It's especially evident in smaller rural towns. I know some of the people behind the tables by name, some I've known since we were kids -- there's my Jr High science teacher, and the brother of my friend from swim team, etc. I also know that some of us are unlikely to be in the same political party (*sigh*) but there's no way in the world that I could believe they'd do anything other than their best job in getting us all through an election in a fair and legal manner.
Exactly.

"Why do you think Republican officials in Arizona and Georgia certified the vote?"
"Why do you think Trump's lawyer has chosen not to claim fraud in his lawsuits?"
"Why do you think Republican State Legislators haven't tried to change the process of appointing Electors?"

(62,448 posts)Graham would be gone. There would be no runoffs in Georgia. Doug Jones would still be a senator and Cornyn would be out in Texas.
Wonder how this guy feels about all the voter suppression laws that have been rushed through state legislatures for the past ten years.
How does he feel about the poll tax put on former felons in Florida?
I notice the term "illegal votes" isn't used in your post, but I am sure he ha probably used them in his postings. Wonder how he defines an "illegal vote?" Most likely has to do with skin color.

(63,912 posts)someone in his facebook feed (who I don't know) said "Show me the post you made asking this question in 2016." I had to laugh. He ignored it. But the point was made.
He would probably say that former felons don't "deserve" to have their voting privileges to be restored.
He asked my husband (in an earlier Facebook page) why we voted Democratic I contributed a lighthearted "I want to have a First Lady who poses for photographs fully clothed." There is no doubt about that photograph of Melania and I felt putting it that way got the point across without being gross (altho I wanted bring in Stormy Daniels, too, but didn't feel comfortable mentioning that.)
