Lapinski was also anti-choice.

I keep hearing how progressives can't win against blue dog incumbents, so we have to just accept that a certain percentage of reps elected as Democrats are going to act and vote Republican. Why would voters choose a candidate that actually offers something, like M4A, or increased min wage, when they can vote for the one who maybe, if you ask nicely, will vote with Democrats?

He was elected based on his father's name recognition and has been an absolute disaster for Democratic constituents.

or not. Various groups analyze all reps' records and report on them, and they all indicate the claim that he almost "always voted with Republicans" is very untrue.

Here's govtrack.com for just one of them.

https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/daniel_lipinski/400630

That ideology graph a quarter down the page, and that wide gap between the ideologies of the parties, makes that clear. He's on the left of it, barely and certainly not nearly as far as I'd want in my rep, but it shows very clearly why demonization is resorted to by hostile partisans.

As for the claim that he's "never a real Democrat," just what the fuck is a real Democrat? Did I miss the test?

We're the party of liberal Americans, but we have many factions that include all racial and other demographics and range from conservative to far left, and that's our strength and our righteousness. We are America. A little puritopian faction that can't value that and understand its part in the whole is unfortunate, but we do include almost all kinds.

apparently he'd suited a majority of his voting constituents.

The problem is outsiders coming in to subvert representative democracy. Demonizing and other deceits posted here typically reflect the tactics used to defeat these locals. Unrepresentative outside groups flood the district with money for negative advertising, agents on the ground, and social media mobs.

And, notably, many of these agents and donors aren't any kind of Democrats.

Races attract outside money all the time like the Maine & Kentucky Senate races.

9 of the 10 most expensive Senate races of all time happened in 2020.
