I got an alert from someone in my area who thought they heard gunshots...right around midnight.

Of gunshot posts here in Chicago. Happens all the time. Luckily my dog went to sleep in her crate at 11:00. Waited for freak out barking from the fireworks. But, we didn’t hear a peep. 4th of July is the bad time because they are never ending and she won’t go outside to pee, at all. Spends most of the time in my lap.

about 10 minutes after midnight and they really did sound like "gunshots".

Nothing else before or after that though - and definitely nothing like what happened around and on July 4th.

several families started at y 7 p.m. Then every hour we were treated to the 'gunshot' sounds. Guess I am getting old but I don't want to celebrate each time zone.

I thought my house was being plummeted by a large hail storm!

But it was just the fireworks. Guess everyone is staying home! Never heard it like that!

Central Tucson. Scattered pops, bangs, and explosions all day, growing more frequent after dusk, building to a frenzy by 11:50 PM, and at midnight all the stoppers got pulled. From what I could tell, nothing major was going on within a block or two of me, but the distant explosions were near constant, there were things going off that I never recall hearing before (something sounded like 10 seconds of a low-hanging muffler scraping the asphalt, but very loud), lots of what sounded like gunfire, groups of people yelling and screaming in the distance, and plumes of smoke hanging over the city, visible in the moonlight.

Things quieted down by 12:20 or 12:30 AM. This is a crazy city.

A new year, as happy as we can muster, to all!
