Some healthcare workers refuse to take COVID-19 vaccine, even with priority access

They are frontline workers with top-priority access to the COVID-19 vaccine, but they are refusing to take it.

At St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Tehama County, fewer than half of the 700 hospital workers eligible for the vaccine were willing to take the shot when it was first offered. At Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, one in five frontline nurses and doctors have declined the shot. Roughly 20% to 40% of L.A. County’s frontline workers who were offered the vaccine did the same, according to county public health officials.

So many frontline workers in Riverside County have refused the vaccine — an estimated 50% — that hospital and public officials met to strategize how best to distribute the unused doses, Public Health Director Kim Saruwatari said.

The vaccine doubts swirling among healthcare workers across the country come as a surprise to researchers, who assumed hospital staff would be among those most in tune with the scientific data backing the vaccines.

The scientific evidence is clear regarding the safety and efficacy of the vaccines after trials involving tens of thousands of participants, including elderly people and those with chronic health conditions. The shots are recommended for everyone except those who have had a severe allergic reaction to any of the ingredients.

to see if there are any unforeseen side effects in the early participants before getting it.

I can definitely relate to this sentiment, even I have a bit of hesitancy until we get the larger sample sizes we're seeing now.

Hear that doctors are MOSTLY getting it and half of nurses are getting it. One if my hospital sources tell me she heard many nurses SAYING they weren't going to get it but then when the time came, many went and got it. I'm not surprised. Many are trumpers.

Though one trumper I work with was asking questions yesterday on getting the vaccine. She showed interest which surprised me.

They continually flaunt the mask policy and talk about 45’s inauguration. And they don’t need no vaccine.

They just continue to model chin diapers and then the next nurse has to remind family members of the mask policy. One wears a “thin blue line” mask and all staff are required to wear a barrier mask. Makes me nuts. I’ve reported them all to management after trying to talk to them as a fellow RN.

My partner works in healthcare and his main coworker (they work very closely together) says she isn’t going to take it.

She bitches and moans every year about the flu shot they are required to take. She says She’s not antivax she “just doesn’t want chemicals in her body”

My partner doesn’t have a spleen so he is considered immunocompromised. Our doctor said the vaccine will be less efficacious for him. So it’s important people around him are immunized.

I can’t believe the hospitals aren’t requiring it. Require flu shot and not this? Stupid.

After 9 months of living on pins and needles now healthcare workers are not taking the vax? Unfuckingbelievable.

But I've been telling people for years -- there is plenty of "stupid" in the medical field.
And while a lot of them are the most caring and selfless individuals .... Guess what? A lot of them really are not. (just like the rest of the species) ------ -- -- ------

of the population is half crazy? The people who believe Qanon or that the election was a fraud live and work amongst us. Meaning up to 40% of doctors, dentists, teachers, lawyers, bankers, etc. believe in nonsense. Add the religious crazies and you can understand why I no longer want to live in America
