On my 7 mile drive to the golf course, there's a house about half way there, just on the edge of the township.
House is off the road, so drive is fairly long.
For nearly 5 years, big flag with the idiots name on it at entrance to drive.
Since March he's had a homemade sign saying "Heil Pritzker", a stupid "Never Again" sign, (about shutting things down, not the Holocaust).
Well, flag is down, but the two signs are still there. Along with a new one.
"Thanks for the nails in the driveway.". Somebody must have gotten sick of his bold idiocy.
Today, I see another sign directly across from the driveway. "I didn't do it, but thanks for the idea!"
I'm anticipating his dumbass signs coming down, now that neighbors must be pushing back.

(63,221 posts)I'm surprised it took anyone this long to challenge his idiocy.
"Heil, Pritzker"? What a complete D-bag! I hope people start getting even more aggressive toward this bastard.

(65,085 posts)Pritzker is Jewish. There were family members lost in the Holocaust.
And this guy thinks a Nazi reference was clever.
I didn't throw nails on his drive, but I sort of wish I did.
One other tool in town took down all his trump worship & replaced it with a "Say No to Joe & the Ho!" sign.
I know that second guy. He's a complete tool & couldn't beat a grapefruit in an arithmetic test.

(63,221 posts)i really like J.B. Pritzker, I am not sure what you think of him as a governor, but I saw a lot of him during the heighth of Covid and was very impressed. I think this guy's nazi reference was evil.
The second guy sounds like a real loser as well. What an asshole! What is with these people? We all hate Trump with a passion, yet you don't see us doing things like this. Why are they so aggressively hateful?

We have a sign that says, "Thank you, Governor Pritzker." Our central committee purchased them.
We live on a hill and our sign is very visible.

(34,062 posts)it's the only one i've seen.
it sits near a busy road on the property of a house that always has a van parked off to the other side of the residence -- the van is for a painting company or something.
i imagine that's one way to kill off at least half your business in a blue state.
what an asshole.

(65,085 posts)In a font size about an eighth of the main sign, it says "The Life Out Of Small Business". In their shallow minds, they think that's clever.
But, I'd like to know what small farmer was economically affected by the mitigation efforts.
Farming, the commodity markets, food processing & grocers were all essential businesses that didn't close.
What life did JB suck out of their small business? Reflexive idiocy, is what it is.
orleans
(34,062 posts)i can't even catch the name of their business on that van -- they live on a very busy road with a 45/50 speed limit and the road curves around there so i need to pay attention to that when i'm flying past

(963 posts)And I always wonder what kind of coherent criticism do these farmers think these signs convey? Is this the best they can come up with? Really?
To be fair, they have never liked any democratic governor. It doesn't really matter. It's just kind of reflexive at this stage.
JB is the kind of billionaire that is willing to raise his own taxes unlike the republican billionaires that tell you that they want to lower your taxes but really want to lower their own taxes.

(2,692 posts)40% of their goddamned income comes from government grants. With that level of dependency on government for their survival, youd think theyd be a little less mouthy about its perceived encroachments on their fracking freedoms.

(30,748 posts)We farm, and I am damned sick of being a scapegoat.
As I have said before, the vast majority of the USDA's budget goes to nutrition.
Pritzker saved Illinois farmers a lot of grief by making a 2.2 billion dollar deal to sell corn and beans to Taiwan. This is after trump screwed us, started a trade war and gave us a lot of grief because of tariffs.
Most of us need the subsidies. The cost of production is too high. Weather and prices are always uncertain.
Yes, most farmers in this state vote republican. Unless we educate ourselves about agriculture, agribusiness, farmers and farm workers, we will never find common ground and change minds.
We have several other farmers in our Democratic central committee. I belong to a group that is setting up some talks with farmers, the pork producers and the Farm Bureau, for starters. I don't know if we will change any minds, but we will be better educated. We may be able to reach out to some farmers.
I could name a few other groups that get government subsidies, but I have no desire to start a war here.
My husband and I have spent a lifetime working for Democratic candidates and causes. When the anti-farm groupthink kicks in on DU, I get tired of it.

(2,692 posts)You may be tired of hearing anti-farm groupthink on D.U. and I understand your point. Frankly, I am not anti-farm. I am, however, anti-conservative farmers who complain about so-called socialistic encroachments when they themselves receive governmental support. And Im not knocking farm supports, either. I just find it distasteful -- to use the mildest of terms -- for some farmers, many farmers, to complain about government economic support to people other than themselves.

(14,923 posts)l have always enjoyed talking w the farmers at NYC's biggest Green Market! (sigh, not in 2020, hopefully by late summer this year!)
I self studied some organic gardening in the '80s. I tried growing miniture carrots, and lettuce one year, but too impatient. I got really teeny little orange roots, and inch high lettuce. 😂 I might just have had a bit too little sun for them.
May your weather go well this year (and w climate change even more challenging)!

(17,931 posts)My nephew married someone from Mt. Vernon, IL a decade or so ago. Nice, town. Her family? Ugh. Just ugh. I have yet to fully understand the connection between rural and conservo-nutism. Lack of diversity? I live in the whitest state in the country. Also, one of the most rural. I can only see my neighbors houses in winter. Our biggest city is the size of a Boston suburb. And yet.... I really don't get it.

Guy I knew had 3 or 4 in 3 tires. Ruined his night!
I don't remember why he was targeted though.
On Edit: There was a Mythbusters episode where Jamie & Adam had to make their own version to disable a high speed chase car.
The best design was using beveled tubing shaped like these, so when the tread was punctured, there was no chance of self-sealing, and an open path for the air to flow. Tires went flat in a second!
