Wow, almost no gunfire last night here in Detroit!

It usually sounds like a war zone on New Year's Eve at midnight. Last night, I heard a few rounds from a semi-automatic, but that's about it. I thought it would be crazy with everyone's pent-up anxiety over the pandemic and all. A delightful turn of events, for sure.

I am totally sick of this, namely this country's obsession with guns. Or at least I used to think it was the US's obsession with guns, until I saw this from the Daily Show about Switzerland. There is huge gun ownership there, but next to no gun violence.

What is the difference? I think America's problems is total self-centeredness? I don't know, but these two videos are eye-opening, and will also make you laugh.

Perhaps the best way to discuss this horrible topic on New Year's Day!

There are always a handful of yahoos setting off fireworks, but last night it sounded like there were some professional grade pyrotechnics going off. Lasted for a while, too. Guess more people around us just wanted to celebrate the passing of shit year.

7. I heard quite a bit, starting with a rifle shot at exactly midnight.

Some pistol fire, too. And a bunch of what were probably firecrackers.

It seemed like an increase over recent years.
