I really think we're a long way from normalcy. Before this new year (2021) ends I'm worried that people will even become more demoralized from this pandemic. I hope I'm wrong but if we Americans don't start listening to the scientist that are trying to guide us through this pandemic 2021 might turn into another 2020.
Covid-19 will be with us for a long time yet. The vaccine program is helpful - but it's going to be a long time before enough Americans are vaccinated to make a difference. We're going to run into a lot of anti-vac'ers - and we still have the anti-maskers to deal with as well.
Americans are spoiled and selfish and don't want to make the sacrifices that are needed to get us out of this mess.
Over the weekend I watched two documentaries about what went on after Hitler was defeated.
The whole of Europe was in rubble and disarray. People didn't have food or shelter. They were wandering all over Europe trying to get back to their families - if their families were even still alive. There were hundreds of thousand of orphaned children in the streets and the killing and genocide was still going on.
Those people took this all in stride and made it through the muddle to rebuild their countries and make it through their adversity.
We in American are focused on getting back to eating in restaurants and getting our hair done and going to the gym. We can't get it together to make the sacrifices we need to make to get back to normalcy.
I'm putting my faith in Biden - but he can't do it alone. He needs our cooperation. I don't know if their are enough Americans willing to work with him to help us crawl out of this hole that Trump has left us in.
I hope I'm wrong and we'll be looking back on 2021 next New Year's Eve and hailing the progress we made during this critical year.

(7,006 posts)Unfortunately, its likely to be widely ignored by some here but, the media is setting us and the Biden Administration for a World full of hurt in 2021. We will NOT be back to "normal" until at least 2025, if then and the "normal" before January 2020 will never come back again.
Eventually, folks will figure that out and when they do, they will be in for a World full of hurt as they have been bamboozed by those who they "trust", who they think are "in the know" or by those with "letters" in front of their names.
It appears Biden gets it and let's hope that continues -- and he does not allow his administration to get to wrapped up in the Groupthink that is way too popular at the moment.
