@maggieNYT
POTUS was not pleased that DoJ responded on Pence's behalf in the Gohmert et al lawsuit trying to expand the VP's procedural role on Jan 6, per 3 ppl briefed. POTUS called Pence this AM to express some surprise about it; he has been more vocal with others about his displeasure.

(527 posts)Biden/Harris would just say ok to him staying in our house. Get real, our votes were counted and don the con is the loser. Anything other than Biden being sworn in would not be tolerated.

(18,486 posts)It was clear that, probably unbeknownst to his own dim self, Goehmert put Pence in a terrible position. And the court forced Pence's hand by ordering him to respond by yesterday and not allowing him to duck.
Pence was boxed in and had to respond and had to respond as he did - telling the court that Goehmert was full of it and he had no power to unilaterally upend a presidential election.
And I knew that when he did so respond, his boss and personal savior would not be happy.
Now I'm sitting back and enjoying the family drama ...

(16,929 posts)he just may as well fire an "Acting Attorney General" every day up to January 20!
Why not - it's not like it's an important position ( ) and who knows, he might even find one who will actually listen to him.

(25,399 posts)The override vote of Trump's veto of the National Defense Authorization Act is a stinging blow to Don the Con. This should make Trump's trip to Georgia to "campaign" for Perdue and Loeffler very interesting.

(16,437 posts)the only reason anyone here cares about Chump's feefees is Schadenfreude.
And after all the crap he's put us all through in the last 4 years, not to mention his assholery about the election, I think he owes us all every drop of Schadenfreude we can wring out of his sorry orange hide.

(65,085 posts)The real power is already ignoring him. Pence & Barr on this.
He wants $2,000, McConnell says no. He vetoes a bill, McConnell's senate republicans bote overwhelmingly to override.
Top generals openly saying the military doesn't get involved in elections..
He's becoming yesterday's news while he's still in office.

(82,849 posts)The Department of Justice represents all high government officials in court matters touching on the duties of their offices. While Trump has used DOJ as his personal law firm, there are still a good number of career professionals who do their jobs as they're supposed to be done. Of course DOJ responded on the Vice President's behalf (as ordered by the court), and of course those government lawyers followed the law in responding as they did. Trump can't possibly feign surprise about all this, and no responsible media outlet should give Trump the time of day about his ignorance.

(16,437 posts)According to the Washington Post:
"In a Thursday night filing, a Justice Department lawyer wrote on Pences behalf that the case is 'a walking legal contradiction,' because Gohmert has sued Pence seeking to give Pence more power. If Gohmert and his allies want to make such a claim, the Justice Department argued, they should sue Congress, not Pence."

(101,325 posts)Gohmert was elected as a state district judge for Texas's 7th Judicial District, serving Smith County (Tyler, Texas) from 1992 to 2002. He was elected to three terms.[7] He first saw national recognition for a 1996 probation requirement where he ordered an HIV positive man, who was convicted on motor vehicle theft charges, to seek the written consent from all future sexual partners on a court provided form notifying them of his HIV status.[9] The order angered LGBT activists and civil libertarians.[9]
In 2002, Gohmert was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to fill a vacancy as Chief Justice on Texas's 12th Court of Appeals, where he served a six-month term, which ended in 2003.[10]
