Hi. I've been trying to find out what happened to Amber Roe Annen's song about Hooverville, because I have been using it for a couple of years for my course on the presidency.
I saw that you all are "k & r" for the video, which is no longer available. I hate to be so ignorant, but what does that mean? Has anyone been able to locate Amber?
Thanks for any help. I will really miss this video for my class.

And this discussion is originally from January. But to answer your question about K&R - "K" means they're replying to "kick" the thread to the top of the forum and "R" means they're recommending it, which you can do by clicking on the little square on the bottom left of any post that starts a discussion. Sorry that the video has been removed from YouTube, but welcome to DU!

Edgerton Library Media

The first in my Songs for Social Studies series. Vocals: Amber Rae Annen, Guitar and Bass: Kevin Schmitz, Lyrics: Schmitz, Music: Schmitz/Annen. Lyrics below:

living so fine
back in 1929
'till the stock market crash hit us hard

we can't pay the loan
the bank took our home
our lives were shattered and scarred

now the nights are so cold
as we lay by the stove
I'm with you but feeling alone

no windows or doors
we sleep on the floor
the wind cuts me right to the bone

and the gray of the skies
and my mom's empty eyes
wanna run and never come back
and the world that was mine
was all left behind
far away from this Hooverville shack

I remember the times
my dad worked the mines
put food on the table for five

tears on his face
he feels the disgrace
as he begs on the streets to survive

my brother left home
to be free and to roam
he's building a dam way out west

little sister fell ill
but we can't afford pills
last night we laid her to rest

chorus

never feel again, never love, never leave
preach the New Deal, sell us hope, I don't believe

chorus

I'll never get back..

I LOVED this video. I recommended it to tons of educators and i would really like to find it again. Besides being a great song and great images, I loved the voice of the young singer -- and the words she wrote. There are tons of great educational videos, but this was one of my favorites, because it had strength in its simplicity.

I never thought it would disappear. I really want to find it again if I can.
Since you were able to to get the lyrics, I'm hoping you, or anyone can help me find the video.

Thanks in advance.
