Hamilton County officials say miscalculations led to late-evening vaccinations in the Tennessee Riverpark on New Years Eve, long after people were turned away and told there were no more vaccines available.
On Thursday, the Hamilton County Health Department expanded the groups that could receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to include all county residents ages 75 or older. No appointment was necessary.
By 9 a.m., when the vaccinations began, there were cars lining Aminicola Highway, prompting traffic alerts from the Chattanooga Police Department. The Health Department used its Twitter account to ask people to leave and return for future vaccine opportunities, which were promised to be announced soon.
Four hours later, the health department announced anyone who had not reached the entrance to the Riverpark would not be admitted to access the park or receive a vaccine. Channel 3 spoke to numerous Hamilton County residents above the age of 75, or with loved ones in that age group, who waited more than four hours for a vaccine before being turned away.

Yeah, "miscalculations."
