Keith Olbermann's Tweet Re: Larry King

A report that @kingsthings has Covid-19 breaks my heart. It’s been easy to kid him but Larry is a loyal friend and his skill at, and knowledge of broadcasting, is limitless. He also treats every small kindness as if it’s the most generous act ever. Prayers.

experiences have good reason for their feelings, but I've never understood why people thought he was a good interviewer or praised his skill or talent.

I was late to him as a viewer given the long scope of his career, but what I saw (the last decade or so of Larry King Live on CNN -- I didn't follow him to whatever he's done the last decade) was a shitshow. He was bad as an interviewer. He asked the wrong questions, failed to follow up on important points; watching his show was annoying as a viewer. And that was when he had halfway relevant guests, never mind his vapid tabloid bullshittery sort of guest.

try to redeem themselves. He was generous that way. At the time he was pretty unique in that he was gossipy in a mild sort of way. Now, of course, that sort of show is ubiquitous and nasty. I was never a real fan though. He seemed like a caricature and I felt it was deliberate. But his show was different.

They felt like they were just talking to someone they knew and not like they were being interviewed.

The difference was when Geraldo "interviewed" MANSON, excoriating/browbeating. Fine if we want to judge, which we do.

But an interviewer doesn't judge, or rather entices the subject into self-indictment.

He's old. Has pre-existing conditions. Survived Stage 1 Lung Cancer and a Heart Attack. Used to be a heavy smoker.

And they waited until he had been in the hospital for over a week, before even making it public.

I fear that he is not going to make it more than a handful of days, perhaps fewer than a handful.
