In my 20's, I felt the GOP was as a party that wanted to bring our country back to the industrial revolution age: when there were no labor laws, and child labor was legal.
But I wonder how Republicans of the near past (like my parents), would feel if they saw what is going on with their party today.
I believe Russian money has finally reached the evil, selfish, heartless party...and it has been compromised beyond repair.

My parents were both Democrats.

I made my own choice long ago.

(31,401 posts)Both were racists, quietly. They expected certain behavior from certain groups of people, but didn't use derogatory words to describe them. They might have broken with Trump over his lies, personal behavior, and support of all things Russian.
My brother is a staunch Republican. He doesn't care about the morality, ethics, or politics of Trump. All he cares about are his taxes.

(8,445 posts)During the primaries of the 2016 election he told me how much he hated trump. Suddenly he did an about face after trump won the primary.
He probably still doesn't like trump, but he hates Democrats more. It's all about HIS money. He really doesn't care what's going on with the country as a whole, as long as his own personal bank account is doing well.

I never got along with them. By the time I reached h.s., I despised their value system.

(205,848 posts)I think my parents were liberal Republicans, something that has vanished in recent years, since they certainly supported most of the values I still support now. I often think how my father especially would be horrified by what's happening in this country now.
