Want to know why our country is in trouble? Here's another good reason:
"All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell. And its lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior."
That's from Tea Party Rep. Paul Broun.

(161 posts)There's ignorance.
There's willful ignorance.
And, then there's the Tea Party.
There is some thought now that the Big Bang may have been more of a state of matter transition when a hot liquid universe froze into a cooler, solid universe, but theories are not lies even if they eventually prove to be incorrect -- they are the best we can do with limited information. By the way, scientists are now looking for cracks in the universe that should have occurred when and if it froze, just like cracks in ice, but they don't know what size of cracks to look for, they could be millions of light-years wide or they could be quantum in nature.
Evolution is observable fact with well documented and understood mechanisms of operation. I hope Paul Broun isn't being a hypocrite by taking a yearly flu vaccine, because he'd have no need to if influenza viruses were incapable of rapidly evolving through mutation.
What do you want to bet that this pasty fat-cat with full medical insurance gets his flu-shot every year?
Embryology? Really? Lies? Embryology is as close as you'll ever get to settled, cold, hard fact. It's all based on direct observation, meaning that we can literally see that the known facts are 100% correct.
That people of this ilk are serving on the Science, Space, and Technology committee -- well, it really puts the 'emesis' in 'nemesis'.

If I were a religous leader, I would be extremely alarmed. People like this are doing incredible damage to religion as viable life path. This guy isn't spreading religion. He is killing it.
