The IRS announced last week that the second round of stimulus checks would start reaching Americans' accounts from January 4
Many customers of tax prep services Turbo Tax and H&R Block are facing delays
In some cases funds were sent to the companies instead of customers directly

(16,858 posts)at the IRS website and it said that it had been sent to some bank account number I never heard of. The money couldn't go into the account I had on file because I closed that account several months ago, but I hoped they would send me a physical check. I did file with H&R Block, so maybe that's where it is. Thanks for posting this!

(9,771 posts)as if it gave some sort of advantage. Didn't read enough to see what benefit they claimed it would provide.
So, I wonder if those complaining signed up for this "service." A lot of people sign up for things without realizing exactly what they're signing up for.
Otherwise, maybe they previously agreed to have the company issue their tax refund early and the IRS send the funds to the company. It's commonly done.
Which does not excuse sending these unrelated checks to the companies, now. But it's slightly better than if they never even used that service.
Of course, I wouldn't put it past Rs sending the money to those companies w/o customers' approval to allow their big biz buddies to rack up some quick interest income while they hold the funds for a time.
