Jay Nixon could make presidential bid in 2016

"With President Barack Obama's surprisingly listless performance in the presidential debate Wednesday night, the stars are coming closer into alignment for Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon.

His path to the White House would be ever so much easier if Obama were to lose in November.

Most Missourians seem oblivious to the fact that Nixon is on the short list for potential Democratic nominees in 2016. Maybe it's because we tend to think of presidents as larger-than-life characters, and we know Nixon too well to think of him that way. He's been around forever.

He first ran statewide in 1988. He ran for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Jack Danforth. He got clobbered."

I was in Charlotte. I met personally with one of the prospective 2016 candidates and saw several others strut their stuff before State Delegations (the NH delegation was staying in my hotel) and at the Convention. Jay Nixon had no presence.

For as crazy right wing as much of Missouri is, I think we're doing well to have him as the governor here. But I think we can aim higher for the presidency.

5. Why does he need an Obama loss in order to run?

Do the writers think that an Obama loss in 2012 will mean the Democratic Party is gonna turn EVEN MORE to the right, and thus make Nixon a viable choice?

Nixon is about as much of a Democrat, IMO, as his name indicates.

Although that's a very ironic thing for me to say, considering that my own name is Koch.

8. The writer's sense of it is that Nixon could beat Romney.

He will have a more difficult time defeating the stellar contenders who will run after Obama's second term. Jeb Bush and somebody somebody were mentioned. He doesn't give Democrats much of a chance to win three consecutive terms.

(quoting Crap Game from Kelly's Heroes)

We have a minor thing going on here and now. It is called the 2012 national election.

Now, let's get this thing on the hump. We got some flyin' to do.

Major T. J. "King" Kong, SAC pilot.

I am running out of cinematic allusions. But 2016 is another election than the one we're fighting our lives for.

Put this argument away until after November's election. Or better yet, for two more years.

11. Romney would never get another nomination

He just threw the coservatives under the bus, and is now trying to run as moderate. The right wing won't be fooled again.
Nixon would be a real long shot, never heard of him, must be real low profile Gov. Missouri forget it, we don't need Dino on ticket we will probably have Claire in senate that is enough.

Nixon the weak, Nixon the serious blue dog, Nixon the non-fighter? No. No, no, no, no, no.

I'd rather see his sister Penny run, don't like her politics either, but at least she has a backbone.

And let Robin Carnahan take on Poppy Blunt. Robin is much more of a fighter than Nixon ever dreamed of being, and she's to the left of Nixon.
